Do you ever find yourself speaking KA macho man speak after reading one of her books? Ha! I do. I catch myself and smile when I realize that's what I'm doing. But these characters just grow on you. I get so wrapped up in what I'm reading, it's as though I'm there with them and everything around me disappears. I know some of the reviewers don't like this series as much, but I have a hard time with that because to me, the characters and the actual story are just as good. No, I don't participate in the club lifestyle. However I'm openminded enough to enjoy reading it, and if you take away the sex club and all the extra props/gadgets, it's just hot scenes that we're used to getting from KA. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series about Stellan and Sixx and I really hope to see Branch's friend Cam/Travis again. He deserves to find his happy and I'd love to see that he does.
The secondary characters are more defined in this book. The world building pulls you in like in the Chaos series or the Rock Chick series. You start caring about the characters and want to see what happens next. The sex is hot. The story line has you flipping pages and rooting for the characters. Kristen Ashley has hit her stride with this one and I can not wait to read more.
Kristen Ashley is a must buy, must read author. However, this series is very different from her other works.
The storyline is, no pun intended, plug and play. The characters and dialogue are okay. Nothing memorable.
The actions and reactions are not believable. Lead male character, Branch, is a former military special ops. His last mission was fubar from the start, he lost his men and has survivor's guilt. He does not have an immediate death wish, as he has a plan of vengeance. Yes, he knows people are also after him.
Now this disciplined, elite soldier decides to get his kink on by attending roaming sex parties where people are drunk, stoned, stupid, etc. And on it goes.
Against the basic rules of safety:
Branch is left restrained, etc. in a locked room.
Never do this! Do not leave your sub alone, especially restrained in a locked room. No excuses!
“Death is relief. It’s the fear that’s the vengeance,”
Branch reminded him.
No desire to re-read this story. I love Kristen Ashley's writing. The series focus is not of interest to me.
Remember this is my personal opinion on this series and does not reflect on the author.
I finished this book today and I don't have the words to express how much I love it. KA may have gotten her wings in Deep End but she learned to soar with this one. The story is just so genuine and the emotions are felt with every word. And just an aside, one of the most interesting and dramatic starts to a KA book in awhile. Almost like the Golden Dynasty's start. All action and drama.
If you are a KA fan- this is required reading. It's everything we love in KA but I would say it's so well written it's going to rival the favorites like Joe, Tack, Tate... Ty.... Branch and his Angie have earned a top slot for sure ❤️
Evangeline has stepped away from The Honey Club after an incident occurred there, and Branch makes her an offer she can't refuse. From the outset Branch is very remote and withdrawn and does his best to remain detached. On the other hand, Evangeline is majorly attracted to him, and decides to try and make their relationship last for as long as Branch allows. This story has a little more intrigue to it, as we learn about Branch, his history, and how he became the man that he is.

It's phenomenal! I love Branch and Evangeline separately and together but especially together.Read more
