Each workout is only 20 minutes! (perfect!). I was surprised how hard the workouts are. Each workout is a total body workout, so The Firm provides you with a workout plan of 3 days a week. They also tell you how much weight to aim for when you're in certain DVD "cycles". For example, cycle one the recommended weight range is 5-8pounds, but for cycle four it's 8-15pounds. I used to love to workout, but lets face it, I'm married, work full-time, and go to school. The 20 minute workouts provide me with everything I was looking for from a workout system (toning and cardio).
The Firm says you'll see results in 10 workouts, and I did! It wasn't anything drastic, but I could tell my legs were more tone. Even my husband could tell a slight difference. I continue to do workout (aiming for the 3 times per week) and I continue to notice that my legs are more tone. I can actually feel a bicep muscle when I flex! Who would have thought that 20 minute workouts would have such good results! And in such a short amount of time. I think I've been using The Firm for about a month now.
The Firm is challenging and rewarding. I was a little worried because each week there's a new trainer/instructor on the DVD, but I love all of them! They are all very motivating, and they do the workout the entire time, if you don't rest, they don't rest. The 8 second "bursts" are challenging too.
I was very surprised at the quality of this DVD set. I would recommend it to anyone!
90lbs to be exact. I lost 60lbs easily with breastfeeding alone but the last 30lbs just stuck to me.
I was desperate to get my body back to normal. I watched the infommercial then ordered on amazon, cause I always order on amazon. After 3 weeks, I was down 10 lbs and 4 inchs. It was amazing. They are 20 minutes so it's easy to squeeze them in whenever. I did it more often than recommended ( twice a day, every other day) but very rapidly I am working off my last few lbs and I look and feel amazing. I highly recommend these dvd's!
These workouts are different. I never feel I'm over-exercising certain parts, and the intensity is making me melt away. In just a week, I was visibly smaller and tighter. My cardio endurance increased dramatically. I still supplement these these shorter, more intense workouts with the longer Firm videos, and I noticed right away that the bursts from the "Thin in 30" workouts increased my capacity to dig into the longer workouts and really get more out of them.
I do agree with the reviews that these workouts are not appropriate for very overweight people, or those who are not conditioned to begin a more intense exercise program. I do not agree that the choreography is unnecessarily complex, except perhaps with one or two workouts led by Allison Davis McLain. If you're looking for very simple choreography as in the Firm's first workout with Susan Harris, you won't find it here, but you will find something that you will have down in the first or second viewing. If you don't understand it at first, just rewind the disc and look at it again. It's not like this is a real-time class where if you don't get it, you never will!
I also found that the intensity of these workouts changed my eating habits. I'm satisfied with less food, and I don't crave sugary junk on the days I do them.
I'm 43, and needed something to combat the changes that come with middle-age. If you're already in fairly good shape and are looking for something new that will really change your body, I wholeheartedly suggest these videos.
If I ever taught a class the way these instructors do, nobody would ever return. I would not recommend these for a beginner unless you are very young and/or have decent cardiovascular conditioning and strength. There are a lot of high impact moves and I would not recommend them for anyone who has any issues with feet, knees, back, etc. There are a lot of push-ups, planks, burpees and other cardio floor exercises that people with any wrist issues like me (CT, RA, etc.) would find painful. The instructors do not give much queuing and jump from one move to the next without sufficient warm-up. They just start in at warp speed.
They offer no instruction on proper form and no low-impact alternatives and there is a lot of jumping. If you are over 40 and are just starting an exercise program, I would not recommend this series, because these are NOT beginner workouts and you may get injured. One of the techniques used in these workouts is cardio bursts similar to tabatas. You do 8 seconds of very fast or high impact followed by 12 seconds of "active" rest (meaning you are still moving, but at a reduced pace). There are 4 cycles in this series and within each cycle there are 3 DVDs (cardio, sculpt & cardio+sculpt). Cycle 1 uses standard cardio moves and the mini-bursts with lighters weights. Cycle 2 uses plyometric jumps and heavier weights. Cycle 3 is lower intensity and agility and balance elements. Cycle 4 uses slow, heavy weights and kick-boxing for cardio.Read more ›
