Quite an amazing cd, actually 3 cd's: the first is John Barry's original score, the second is Michel Colombier's score which ulitmately was the score used for the majority of the film, the third is "additional music composed and conducted by John Barry".
After some test screenings, the studio brass decided to scrap Mr. Barry's quite amazing score (reacting to feedback from those test screening audiences) and hire Michel Colombier to re-score the film. Mr. Barry's score was used sparingly in the film, with the majority of the music from Michel Colombier.
They ARE two very different scores: John Barry utilized a 95 piece orchestra and Michel Colombier used 67 musicians. Michel Colombier seemed to rely a lot on musician Robbie Buchanan's skill with synthesizers to create a foundation that seems very 80's. John Barry's score, on the other hand, was a John Barry score, you pretty much can hear his extraordinary musical history here (James Bond, Born Free, among others). John Barry's score is very much "title-less", meaning, for example, tracks are titled, "4M2", "5M2", "7M3AR/C", etc. I believe the "M" stands for "motif", but I could be wrong.
Songs included: Ann Wilson's (Heart) "The Best Man In the World", Ashford & Simpson's "Love Goes On" (a very beautiful Love Theme from them), Meli'sa Morgan's "Deeper Love" (with Dave Koz on sax) and the true gem, Randy Edelman's "Dance A Little Closer" (written by Randy Edelman, Jackie De Shannon and John Barry, lord what a songwriting team!!).
Extensive and super informative liner notes from music writer and professor, Jon Burlingame. The cd booklet is printed on glossy paper and lists all(!) musicians used by both Mr. Colombier and Mr. Barry.
This cd reminds me of the quality cd's from the label, Hip-O Select in it's quality and thoroughness. If you are a John Barry, Michel Colombier and/or Randy Edelman (a wonderful film composer in his own right) fan, you will be impressed.
A limited edition of 5000 are available for this cd. Hats off to the cd label, LaLa Land Records.

5.0 out of 5 stars CD Golden Child, the
Reviewed in France on March 26, 2017

    5.0 out of 5 stars
Reviewed in Japan on July 4, 2013
