This is a truly wonderful picture book that succeeds on so many levels. The pictures here are great; from raindrops on blades of grass, pigeons in flight, and a ladybug crawling on a leaf. They are memorable looks at a child's walk in the park. Tying all of these photos together is a green line meant to symbolize the child's journey. This line follows the narrative of the book and invites small fingers to trace along. I seriously doubt any child will be able to resist the urge to trace the line with their finger and go on the journey from photo to photo. The text is spare and doesn't overpower the story that is told by the photo's and the line. It's playful look at snakes that are really sticks, peek a boo behind trees, and puddles for splashing really adds to the book's charm.
So here you have wonderful illustrations, an orginal engaging concept that encourages children to interact with the book by tracing their own journey, and a text that is playful, charming and leaves lots of room for imagination. You even get to count ducks along the way! All this ends up back home and is sure to inspire many trips to the park. A solid recommend for a group read aloud and also one on one sharing. There is just so much good stuff here- don't miss this one!
