I love this album, but then I still have my "Frodo Lives" button...
I remember the Wizard from back in the day, when he could be found performing in Washington Square park or at the Cafe Wha?. A fixture of the West Village scene, his unique blend of twelve string folk and post Elvis ballads are a mirror of those times. A CBS recording artist in the early 60's, he became one of the original home recording pioneers, managing to create a highly layered multitrack sound using the most primitivce of equipment. This is not a highly produced commercially slick studio album. It is an American original, a historical document of a special time and place when anything was possible. Enjoy it for what it is, or go buy an Alicia Keyes album and watch the Grammys...yawn...

I see I must point out that The lables attached to records, like PSYCHEDELIC, is not one I, the creator of the album, would have used....

This was pure elven music, and not for everyone......But those who enjoy it, do really seem to like it......

As Chris' young cousin, I grew up hearing this played live at family gatherings. He played an Ovation similar to the one you see pictures of John Lennon playing, but Chris's had two big reflectors stuck to the top.

If you can listen past the sometimes over production (to today's ears), imagine yourself there, in the room with 70's paneling, listening to Chris sing with his eyes closed as he did.

This record was recorded on a little Sony reel to reel, going back and forth from side to side, adding a new instrument each time.....
I played everything on it, and am flattered to know that an original record, still sealed is worth about $1,000........amazing
I have one left....

I was completely blown away when I got this record, my jaw hit the floor, I couldn't believe how totally WORTHLESS it was. I waited for about six weeks for this one to arrive and stopped just short of getting a refund after I heard it! NOT PSYCHEDELIC, TOTALLY HOKEY, ABSOLUTELY AWFUL!!! Not reccomended, unless you enjoy boring, grating, annoying and incredibly poorly recorded "folk" music.
