If any of have read my previous score CD reviews here on Amazon you will no doubt be familiar with my indifferent attitude to Brian Tyler. The first time I took notice of him was for his exceptionally brilliant score to Bubba Ho-Tep (Signature Edition). After this he quickly wound up scoring trash movies such as Fast and Furious and the abysmal AVP: Requiem. His Rambo - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack was adequate but coasted in on the fumes of Jerry Goldsmith's far superior work. In the unfortunate modern Hollywood trend of "action noise" music Brian Tyler seemed to the biggest culprit. That was until I discovered this mesmerizingly beautiful score to a virtually unheard-of movie.

I've never seen The Killing Room, but after listening to a few samples of the score on the Varese Sarabande website I had to hunt it down right away. The music is minimalist but is full of mood and a range of deep emotions. Tyler uses a range of styles from chamber music to orchestra with long solos on strings and piano. It's a hypnotic, unique experience and I strongly suggest you find a copy. Though not a Soundtrack Club release Varese Sarabande only made 1000 copies of The Killing Room and they are now all sold out. If you can get it elsewhere it's a respectable use of $30.

The soundtrack to this movie is really well done! Brian Tyler, whom also has done the likes of Rambo, Darkness Falls, and many others just to name of a few! It's really a simple sound...nothing extravagent at all. But it leaves us in that, "what's gonna happen next mode." I feel it was very dramatic at times, just as certain parts of the movie were. A very crisp, clean, clear, sterile sound, for the sterile "Killing Room" that the movie was filmed in! I remember at the end of the movie, it mentioned that the Prague Harmonic Orchestra did the score! I believe that's what they call themselves. Anyways..a job well done! I'm no professional writter, but for some reason, I had a hard time explaining this review! As a customer to the buying this soundtrack, I've waited many months to finally get my hands on this!!!! I'm so excited to finally hear it and I simply can't wait! But as someone who actually worked on "The Killing Room" myself, (Stephen Waters/stunt double/stand-in/photo double for Timothy Hutton), I really enjoyed the entire experience and I simply can't wait to hear this! It will bring back so many memories about the "Killing Room!" I spent many hours and days in that room! One of the most amazing experiences of my entire life! ...and if you by chance stumble upon this soundtrack by accident and haven't even seen the movie yet, please go rent it, buy it, or find it somewhere! You will not be dissapointed! Just enter in with an open mind, otherwise, you might not exit!

Stephen W.
