2. The dates that can lead to love
5. The steamy sexy times
It's almost a guarantee that when I pick up a Lauren Blakely book I'm going to thoroughly enjoy it and The Knocked Up Plan was no different. Actually, she out did herself with this one. I absolutely loved Ryder and Nicole, and watching them go from friends/coworkers to lovers/expectant parents. This is one of those books that when your reading it, you literally will laugh out loud. I highly recommend this book.
Ryder and Nicole.......
Once I started the book, I did not want to put it down nor did I want it to end. Hands down this is one of my favorite Lauren Blakely books. As a matter of fact, it tops the list.
First I want to say I the that LB's latest books are set in NYC. That just adds to the appeal even more.
Nicole is a single, independent woman who is tired of waiting for 'Mr. Right.' She wants a family so she decides to just skip the wedding and get right down to the baby business. Nicole wants a baby but not a man. She has no reservations of raising a baby on her own and she is determined to do it. She just needs to find the perfect donor.
Ryder is sexy and single and a no commitment type of guy. He hasn't always felt that way, however life has a tendency of changing people. He and Nicole are coworkers and friends. Both like and respect each other. Nicole has decided that Ryder would be the perfect candidate to father her baby but asking him is nothing short of awkward and embarrassing.
It turns out that Ryder needs a favor from Nicole as well. Not the same favor, of course, but one that will actually work in their favor. The situation also happens to be convenient that there will be no complications since neither want a relationship. Ha!
What follows are fun, funny and smoking sexy times.
As is predictable their arrangement becomes complicated. You will love reading this book and finding out how it all turns out.
Both Nicole and Ryder were amazing characters. Each time LB writes a new book, I have new favorites. Nicole is hands down my favorite heroine and I wish I were more like her.
Don't even get me started on how perfect Ryder was! Not only was he sinfully sexy and gorgeous, but he was a true gentleman. So caring. So considerate. Ryder was completely selfless when it came to Nicole.
Gosh, I could go on and on. If you are already a LB fan then there's no need for me to push this book because you already know it'll be great. However, if you are new to this author, then I absolutely recommend you give her a try. I promise you will not be disappointed.
This is my honest and unbiased review.
Ryder's love life did not pan out as he expected so he has become more cynical and his show is discussing more about lust and hook ups than true love. His ratings are tanking, the sponsors are not happy, and he has lost his touch as a dating coach and speaker on love and relationships. Nicole's love life is non existent but she is much better at analyzing relationships and love and can fake it for her audiences if needed.
They both could use some help. He needs her to help with trying out dates for a crucial assignment. She wants something more personal...as in his babymaking juice. She wants to be a single mom and she trusts him to make his deposit and give her what she needs.
They thought they were both getting what they wanted. They thought they were safe from emotions or getting too attached. He doesn't want to fall in love again and risk being hurt. And she thinks she is broken or immune to love. But what happens when all of their plans and decisions come into question? Sometimes getting what you think you want might not be what you really need.
I love that they came into their deal with honest expectations, trust, and respect. Their interactions were playful, passionate, and natural. They were truly friends with benefits shooting for a bonus for her. And she in turn was trying to help him get his career back on track. They invaded each other's lives, but started to realize that sometimes letting yourself be close to someone is not as scary as it seems. No expectations starts to feel more uncomfortable, they find they miss each other, and become more afraid of overstepping boundaries.
I absolutely adored these two. Their banter and rapport were fun. and their chemistry was off the charts. They trusted each other and were honest with their expectations and respected each other. They had their personal goals, but the process became more enjoyable than they expected, and they began to become more invested in the other's outcomes as well.
But what really touched me was the underlying vulnerability, the slow burn towards feeling more, the admitting it to themselves, and the building intimacy. They both started to figure out their own needs, but were not sure of the other's. And there was so much at stake if they were wrong and ran the risk of losing their friendship or making things even more complicated and awkward. These relationship gurus could talk the talk, but were afraid to walk the walk.
Will they be brave and take the risk of putting themselves out there? Or stay true to the no strings attached is safer theory?
This book and trope was unique. It was different than an "accidental pregnancy" book, or just a friends-to-lovers book. It was all of it and more...more fun, more feels, more complications. I liked that they had set plans, but it got all complicated and messy with unexpected feelings. I swooned and happily sighed so many damn times. My eyes would tear up, I might have even awwwwed outloud. I abso-freakin-lutely loved Ryder. He made me swoon so hard.
Ryder can melt panties and hearts. He is just that consummate good guy needing to see his full potential and get the most out of life...but he isn't sure he could get there. And Nicole is a perfect sassy match for him who knows what she wants. The way they interact, support, and take care of each other is sweet. Even if they do confuse themselves and each other at times, and sometimes have communication issues and fears.
There are opportunities for them to also show personal growth, adjust their attitudes and expectations. They are smart, and enlightened people who make their careers in selling love and intimacy, but it also makes them more cynical at times. So the road to them finding it and believing in it is bumpier for them
I adored this book. It was funny, sweet, sexy-as-hell, emotional, and so freakin' swoony. I smiled so much, but there are so many moments that I got tears in my eyes. My heart was totally captivated and invested in how this story was going to play out. I loved getting both of their points of views, and how the author added another way to let their personalities shine with their advice columns and shows.
It can easily be read as a stand-alone. But there are some fun cameos. I loved getting more with the girls, Delaney and Penny, as well as a few other familiar faces that made me smile. And we got to meet a couple of his friends--male twins, Dylan and Flynn-- who are highly intelligent, rich, athletic, and a bit nerdy. They have a lot of potential.
