I understand that there's been a lot of criticism about Korra from people who grew up watching Avatar: The Last Airbender. And that's understandable. A lot of what the original series brought to the table - the humor, the quirky protagonist, the epic scale of the narrative - was very uncommon in animated series at the time and hasn't been done well by many series since.

That said, this show is NOT the last airbender. Aang is not the protagonist, the scale of the first two seasons was relatively limited to one location, and the focus on relationships (while in my opinion understandable given the shift in age of the major characters) was a noticeable deviation from the original format that left a sour taste in many peoples' mouths. Season 2 in particular felt fairly contrived and rushed, leaving a lot of things unresolved and culminating in a somewhat cliched and deus-ex-machina finish. So for some, expectations were at a low coming into this season, and many of my friends had given up on following the series altogether.

Then comes along season 3. In my opinion, regardless of your feelings about the first two seasons, this is the season that Last Airbender fans should enjoy most. For me, the ending in particular secured it as the season that I've enjoyed most out of ANY Avatar season. There were some bold (BOLD) moves made in this season given its being a Nickelodeon franchise and I really think they were needed to support the shift back toward a more grandiose setting and narrative. The villains are no longer one-dimensional. They're by no means the most complicated of an animated series, but there were definitely times at which they were humanized, and, for me, sympathetic. The heroes were similarly complicated in ways that I found refreshing.

Let me get this straight Viacom, company that owns Nickelodeon, has refused to let streaming/online purchasing of Korra Season 3 solely to get viewership up for actual broadcasts. I'm sorry I love the show but I work nights and can't make the normal airtime of the show. The fact that the first three episodes have already premiered and they have not released them through digital outlets like this one is BS. I wanna support the show and buying the digital season pass is how I do it cause I can't watch it any other way.

I'll update the review once the season is finished airing but 5 episodes in, it is safe to say that this is the best episode of The Legend of Korra yet.

Studio Mir is back animating all of the episodes this season and once again, it is probably the most beautiful animation on television. The fight scenes in particular stand out as they a fluid and fast paced.

Unlike last season's disappointing villain, this season seems to be stepping it up with a group of four criminals who's motives are shrouded in mystery. They are powerful and make a formidable enemies for Korra and I can't wait to see how their story plays out.

One of the issues many people had with Book 2 of this series was that the main characters always seemed to be at each others throats instead of working as a team. That is not the case here. Team Avatar is back and working together and unlike last season, you can believe that they are a very close group of friends.

It's fun, interesting, and emotionally engaging which is everything a fan could ask for in a Avatar season.

This is probably my favorite TV show of all time. This season felt so much like the original Avatar: The Last Airbender series. The action scenes were some of the best that I've ever seen. The character development was wonderful and the episode pacing was perfect, considering that it was a shorter run than The Last Airbender with only 13 episodes. That finale was the best thing that I've ever seen, but I won't go into depth to avoid spoilers. I don't think I've ever felt so much emotion over any other finale before. Everybody watch this!

The animation and action scenes are the best, thanks to Studio Mir and the directors. The music by Jeremy Zuckerman is beautiful and is on par with other famous composers if not better due to the emotion that it evokes and the use of unique instruments. However, due to Nickelodeon's horrid advertising and treatment of this series, the show isn't as popular amongst the mainstream audience and everyone involved in the production of this masterpiece is often overlooked. However, this show has a devout following, and it will get the recognition it deserves in time. Hopefully the Avatar Universe continues into the future with a different network and the same love and talent shown by the creators and everybody involved.

I loved the first season of korra, but felt a little let down during most of season 2. unaloq was never a very interesting villain, and the writing just didn't seem as good compared to the first season overall. this new season has started off much better, with more intriguing villains, better jokes, and episodes that, thus far, just balance the action, humor, and character development better than the episodes of season 2. also, i like the idea of harmonic convergence causing all these changes in korra's world, requiring korra to deal with the unexpected consequences of her decisions. when it comes down to it, the first three episodes just felt more like... avatar: the last airbender, with korra and company traveling and meeting people across the world. so, i'm in. and let's not forget old zuko riding a dragon. because zuko is awesome.
