5.0 out of 5 starsAnother Heretic

This fine book has an overall rating of only 3 1/2 stars because the minions from the church of ManBearPig have come forth to silence the Deniers. It is interesting to note that a fair number of the book's critics have not bothered to read it, but are content to base their shrill reviews on a cursory skimming. I can picture their apoplectic rage, causing them to leave spittle on their monitor, as Sylvester The Cat might do while pounding out their self righteous critiques.

Now to the book. In the first part, Mr. Goreham introduces the many individuals and organizations that support the idea of AGW. He does this in a respectful way, without any "smirking", as some have suggested. After that, he proceeds to address every aspect of the debate, from A to Z, in a reasoned presentation of facts, that any first rate courtroom attorney would envy. Some have accused the author of not being a scientist. I believe that his MS in Electrical Engineering provide more than ample credentials in science, and its applications in the real world. His ability to understand the nuances of the scientific method in determining causal relationships far greater than that of ALGOR.

Readers may consider reading the last couple of pages of the book before starting at the beginning. These point out that many well meaning adherents of AGM are prompted by the "Precautionary Principle". Unfortunately, in a world with finite resources, and the many worthy needs clamoring for them; we cannot afford to spend untold sums on an unproven calamity.

I have loaned my copy of this very readable book to a friend who is a believer in AGW, with a request that he keep a writing tablet nearby, so that he might jot down any factual errors, or items that he disagrees with. It will be interesting to see what he comes up with. As with a couple of other books that I have been taken with, I may buy a second copy to make part of my personal lending library. At my request. the Phoenix Public Library is in the process of adding this book to its collection.

The debate is not over. Note that Mr. Goreham has offered to debate his opponents, with no takers thus far.

I thought this book might help me understand climate change denial, but it is nothing more than a sarcastic rant about politics, really nothing at all to do with climate science. A self-serving poorly written opinion piece with no science and references overwhelming from the popular press rather than academic researchers.

5.0 out of 5 stars The science belies Climatism

If you really want to learn about "climate change," and the problems with the "climatism" orthodoxy that predicts catastrophes for the Earth based on increasing carbon dioxide levels, you need to read this book. It covers the history and science behind "climate change" in an easy to understand, and enjoyable way. It thoroughly debunks the theory that man-made CO2 is going to destroy civilization on the Earth.

Yes, CO2 levels have been increasing over the last 50 years -- now at about 390 parts per million -- which is about 0.039% of the atmosphere. But Russian ice core data (page 79) shows temperatures and CO2 levels today are not unusual for values observed over the past 400,000 years.

This book details how the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which was formed in 1988, and supposedly regarded as the accepted authority on climate change is nothing short of a fraud. It has issued four reports over its lifetime containing cherry-picked published scientific literature on the subject. It mostly ignores published literature which does not support its agenda of predicting catastrophic "climate change" because of increasing atmospheric CO2.

The UN is using "climate change" as another tool in its attempt to form a one-world government, and transfer wealth from the "rich" countries to "poor" countries. This time in the guise of the "rich" developed countries destroying the climate by burning carbon fuels to support their economic growth.

The science on "climate change" is NOT settled, regardless of what the IPCC, Al Gore, EPA, Mann, etc. say. The computer climate models continue to fail miserably in predicting future temperatures.

Read this book and YOU decide where the truth lies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great compilation of the current state of affairs of climate hysteria

I don't generally write reviews here, but having read at least four previous titles, as well as numerous articles and commentary on this topic, I was extremely impressed with Mr. Goreham's assessment of the situation which now confronts the rational public as an ideological, international left-wing movement, as well as their allies who are simply financial opportunists, demagogue this topic at the larger world's expense. The underlying science is concisely, accurately and comprehensively presented, while the political implications are exposed without kid gloves. If we could get the MSM and their gullible, acquiescent public to read and acknowledge Mr. Goreham's message, it would go a long way towards improving the future of life on this planet. It will require uncompromised intellectual integrity, as well as a recognition that adaptation in a context of practical common sense, should be the order of the day. Seasons, solar activity and weather cycles come and go on this heavily watered rock in space we call Earth; the snake oil salesmen and their busy body friends in the U.N., bureaucratic domains and academia need to have Steve Goreham's message rubbed in their collective (pun intended) noses.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Lay Guide
Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2013

I have spent a good deal of my career reviewing allegedly scientific claims about one cause (vaccine risks, genetically modified food risks, etc.) after another that actually is based on pseudoscience or superstition or scientific misconduct. The war against CO2 is one such cause, since science cannot explain with any certainty any of the recent warming periods (roman, medieval, etc.) or subsequent cooling periods in historic time, let alone geologic time (the recent cosmic ray theory may finally settle the matter, but that remains to be seen). Any informed reader knows that the greenhouse effect is accepted by all scientists, whether "skeptics" or not. The question is not whether it exists, but whether recent CO2 emissions and rising C02 levels in the atmosphere have any substantial or even measurable effect, let alone a harmful effect. So far, the advocates have come up empty of proof of any kind, and their forecasting models are discredited by their failure to predict the warming plateau of this century. Their assertions of harms (extinctions, disease, sea rise, etc.) have so far proved laughable. Goreham's book breaks no new ground in this debate. But it does provide a useful summary of existing knowledge, written well in lay terms, and well documented from the scientific literature. It also has outstanding production values, with clear, well-labled and well-explained charts and graphs. I would categorize this book as a must read for any newcomer to the debates, or anyone who is interested in an objective review of the evidence. It won't persuade the ranters and ravers who think that the fate of the earth is threatened by negligible warming, that windmills, biofuels, and solar power represent anything more than wasteful spending, and that raising energy costs to American consumers will have any useful effect of any kind, but nothing will convince the true believers.

Having been a professional engineer for 35years and involved in disproving the Faux Science Climate Fiasco, since 1992 when the Climate Prophets of Doom first met in Brazil. The despots of the UN figured out a way to extort money from Industrialized countries, specifically the United States and our G7 partners with a process similar to the "Emperor's New Clothes".
Having met Steve at one of the World Climate Conference Conferences in DC a few years back, I was thrilled at the outcome and quality of the book and the wonderful humor he interjects.
For non-technical readers, he sticks to understandable points and the history as it develops over time. Well worth the read to understand the TRUTH of the "chicken little the sky is falling farce" and the politicians in the US who have wasted $252 billion of our taxpayer dollars on a worthless exercise.

I have not finished this book yet but so far it's great! Very readable and easy to grasp for the average person, which I am. The illustrations, charts, and little boxes of info splattered all over the book are trememdously helpful. Also Steve Goreham has done his homework. There are so many pages of footnotes (and an index) that Steve had to create 2 websites for them, so the book would not be so long! This is the best climate book I have seen!

4.0 out of 5 stars The book clearly laid out in detail cogent arguments that question man's contribution to rising world temperatures

I chose the book after hearing an interview with the author on the radio, and as I have noticed rising stridency in Climate press reporting, I have become skeptical of the validity of the climate warnings. As a scientist myself, I expected this book to address my questions; for the most part it did so.

Goreham's writing style is engaging, and his research is extensive, including numerous citations supporting his assertions. He demonstrated that much of the press and many politicians have joined a cheer-leading movement pressing policies that aren't well supported by science.

Goreham also engages in some cheer-leading for his own positions, but on balance, this is a well organized deconstruction of what has become a climate change hysteria.

If you are not a socialist progressive, then you know that Climatism is a left wing religion. This book is full of easy to read facts and figures that show everyone is better off in a free enterprise society (a rising tide dies lift all boats!) and that the proponents of Climate as a Religion want to stone us back into the 15th century, really the 13th, but they wont acknowledge the natural Medieval Warming Period, Where life improved.
