For two seasons on network television, The Monkees were the delight to many fans across the country as well as around the world and transcended into records and concert tours. While they were anticipating going into a third season, they made this feature film with a mixture of comedy, adventure, musical and avant-garde. Unfortunately the Monkees' series would get cancelled by the time this movie hit the box office and the film likewise would receive less favorable reviews but would become a cult classic regardless. This movie would feature a lot guest appearances like Annette Funicello, Victor Mature, Jack Nicholson[who co-authored the film], Sonny Liston, Frank Zappa, Teri Garr and Toni Basil, who danced with Davy Jones on "Daddy's Song" with its trick cinematography with black against white in terms of background and clothes, respectively and vice versa[Also note that both Garr and Basil were featured dancers in the rock film The T.A.M.I. Show four years prior to this film]. I like the live version of the song "Circle Sky" shot in Salt Lake City, Utah and its added effect when the fans rushed the stage and literally tear off the heads[No pun intended here]off the Monkees themselves as mannequins. Love the use of cinematography on songs like "The Porpoise Song"; "Do I Have To Do This All Over Again?"; "As We Go Along"; "Can You Dig It?". Listen carefully as you hear Peter Tork whistle The Beatles song "Strawberry Fields Forever" during one scene.
Recommended for any Monkees fan and you won't be disappointed. Seriously.
