The Neocon, The Messiah, and Cory Booker Kindle Edition
The Times’ op-ed wizards described Booker as a “deeply unconventional politician,” known for “once rushing into a burning house before the fire department arrived— saving a woman and traumatizing his security detail,” and they predicted that he “will be able to use his political star status to fight for the neglected, the powerless, people who are working and people who need to work in New Jersey and nationally.”
Unconventional indeed. But there’s a few unconventional sides to Booker’s progressivism that has received much less recognition. His political career was launched with the help of the Chabad-Lubavitchers, a rabidly rightwing Hasidic cult that considers its dead Rebbe a messiah and that pushes a regressive right-wing worldview that would horrify Booker’s prog supporters: deep- rooted racism, violent Islamophobia, medieval positions on everything from abortion to homosexuality and women’s rights, and a nasty tendency to normalize sexual abuse and protect serial sexual predators in its ranks.

Cory Booker comes off like Obama x 100 in terms of self-serving political aspirations. His positions on key issues seem ambiguous at best, or to the cynical observers like me, he's got a for-sale sign on his head. Clearly in bed with private equity and other high finance interests, it's a serious concern that Booker's sponsors have such a disturbing collection of policy desires.
I'm reminded of Cheney's discussion of Obama before he reached office -- in the context of Obama having said he would stop exjudicial killing, torture, etc. etc. -- VP Dick said snidely that once President Obama began getting briefed on intelligence that his foreign policy reflect a continuation of Bush & Co. To my surprise, he has exceeded this prediction, and I am now more pessimistic than ever about up-and-coming populists.
It's important that everyone who considers themselves progressive read this excellent book by Levine so you can get a more complete picture of leading "liberal" political figures like Booker. Don't fall for the same trap that so many like myself did with a refreshing new face of Obama coming into town: be on the lookout for this neocon in sheep's clothing that is Cory Booker.
For his campaign against Booker, he makes the excuse that Booker's office blew him off. No doubt they looked him up on line and decided they wanted nothing to do with such a rag-picker.
28 pages cannot be called a "book". There are new car advertisement pamphlets longer than 28 pages. Anyone who stops at 28 pages cannot call themselves an "investigative" journalist; ANY amount of investigating should turn up more than 28 pages of material.
Wow, just wow. I am speechless. This is literally the new low. I never heard biggest BS in my life! Why not make it even more sensational, why not go after mother Theresa?
