I love hearing this music when it is recorded the way it is usually played - as if you were sitting right in front of the performer in his hotel room. Jimmy's playing is superb and the recording captures it very nicely without it being overproduced. Now if I could just learn how to play like him!
This album displays Jimmy's blistering technique. Jimmy takes the standard repertoire and presents it at an increadible pace with clever twists and an impresive technique. Though many of the tunes were performed by Django, the inventor of gypse jazz, Jimmy approaches them from a different angle fusing it with bebop lines and more modern harmonies to create a fresh, new sound. Nice one. Instrumental jazz at its fastest if not its finest.
If you're a gypsy guitar fan or just a fan of the guitar, you should own this album. This is truely awe inspiring stuff. Not just rosenberg, but legrene and debarre as well. I own several guitar albums and this is within a handfull of the best; it's right up there with mclaughlin, de Lucia, and di Meola!
Jimmy and his compatriots take you for a roller coaster ride right from the start. Killer jazz lines easy to understand and feel. I'm incredibly inspired to play after hearing just one tune. If you're a gipsy/bebop Jazz guitar lover you gotta get this CD right away (and you can't get it at your local music store either).
