As will become clear, my numerical rating can only try to average out the experience: a very good book, a very deceptive listing. Unfortunately, just now the latter has to weigh more.
I just received this in this version: hardcover, published by Bibliolife, title listed as "The Reminiscences of Carl Schurz: Illustrated with Portraits and Original Drawings," authors listed as Carl Schurz, Frederick Bancroft, William Archibald Dunning (last two evidently editors for this edition). I know the work well, having read it in the original edition years ago. It is a fascinating memoir by a great American, involved with the 19th-century immigrant experience, the trauma of the Civil War, Lincoln's ordeal, and the USA's rise to global prominence.
And the present edition is a joy to behold: a sturdy and very legible facsimile of the 1909 edition. BUT...
The publisher, Bibliolife, gives the title as listed above on both the book cover and the title page. It is very misleading. As becomes clear when one reaches the first replica page, this is only volume 2 of this 3-volume work.
I have sent feedback to Amazon about this. i have tried to contact Bibliolife as well, but their website is having access problems just now.
ADDENDUM: Recently the title listing was amended to indicate correctly that this is only volume 2. That was not the case when I bought my copy.
