A collection of fine songs, some pretty well known, some less so, and Ella provides some perfect renditions of them, her pure voice and style making them glow. This volume has her wonderful performance of "The Lady is a Tramp," among others, some sweet, some tender, some fun. I think Buddy Bregman's orchestrations here are a step above those he did for Ella's "Cole Porter Songbook," perhaps because they seem to suit these songs so well. And if you think this one's good, volume 2 is even better.

Ella Fitzgerald and Rodgers and Hart are a sensational combination! I've had the original L.P. album since I was sixteen and to hear it is to love it! "Bewitched" is particularly wonderful, but there isn't one clinker in the whole bunch - I HIGHLY recommend buying both volumes-you definitely won't regret owning these impeccable interpretations of wonderful love songs! Ella's interpretations of these timeless songs are perfection, and it's great fun to listen to the rarely heard verses which are clever and sophisticated; they DO add something to a song!
