The Sandwalk Adventures is a fanciful tale of follicle mites that just happen to be living in the left eyebrow of Charles Darwin himself. To the mites, their host Darwin is a god, known as Flycatcher, and stories of his mighty ocean-spewing, world-creating powers have been handed down from generation to generation...of eyebrow mites. Upon hearing of their colorfully explained misunderstanding of who he actually is, Darwin sets the mites straight...after he convinces himself that the curious voices in his head are just ordinary voices...in his eyebrow. A humorous series of illustrated lessons in natural selection and evolution ensues and a warm-hearted story, and history lesson, about one of the greatest naturalists of all time unfolds with it. Recommended for readers with an interest in real science bounced off the funny bone. Enjoy some wholesome family entertainment that will make you think and, if you're not careful, might even teach you a thing or two. Suitable for the high school set and above or for advanced younger readers.

Jay Hosler is a biology professor at Juniata College by day and a scheming cartoonist at night. His diabolical plan is to secretly weave his love of science and the natural world into thrilling tales of adventure and derring-do. So far, the plan is working. Unsuspecting readers fall into stories about creepy-crawly things and discover the wondrous world right underfoot. His books have been translated into several languages, but he can only read the ones in English. In his spare time, Jay likes to read comics and watch Godzilla movies. He lives in Pennsylvania with his queen and two drones.

This is a charming graphic novel featuring aged Charles Darwin, his family, and a family of mites living in his eyebrow. One mite can speak to him, and so Darwin learns of the mites' myth that the Flycatcher(Darwin's nickname aboard the *Beagle*) is their Creator. Darwin must convince Mara and Willy (the mites) that evolution is real. Along the way we see the world through the mites' wild-eyed myths as well as the charming home life of the Darwins at Down House in England.

This is a great introduction to evolution as well as a nice gift. Hosler has done other comics as well. In any case, highly recommended.

The author, Jay Hosler does an excellent job making evolution accessible to the younger set through a humorous, well written, scientific graphic novel. My child has reread it many times and loves it as his new "go to" book.
    Thank you Professor Hosler!

I am a TA for the evolutionary biology class at my university (a Tier1 school), and this year we required this as a "text" for our undergraduates. Never having read it before, I ordered it as well and loved it. It is a perfect and simple explanation of Darwin's four major principles for evolution. A must read for anyone who is curious or just wanting to understand it better.

This book is an excellent gentle introduction to evolution, as well as an interesting and touching story from a historians perspective. I bought this on a whim and am thankful to Amazon for suggesting it to me...I'm sure my kids will enjoy it as much as I do.

This book is EXCELLENT. I cannot stress this enough. Have a nerdy, STEM-loving, comic-loving kid? This is a winner. My son loves it; I love it. We even bought a second copy for his gastroenterologist. It's a great graphic novel for the budding (and past the bloom) skeptic.

I had to read this book for a college science class. I don't agree with evolution so it was a hard read for me. It really waters down the possibility of God and actually mocks the idea of a creator through the entire book. Very anti-God and anti-Christianity. ( I had to pick 1 * because it wouldn't let me pick 0 )

5.0 out of 5 stars Une fable poétique sur le darwinisme
Reviewed in France on March 17, 2014
