About the Author

Ron Paul is a former twelve-term congressman from Texas and a #1 New York Times bestselling author. He has devoted his political career to the defense of individual liberty, sound money, and a non-interventionist foreign policy. An excellent book

An amazing book. I intended to home educate through elementary, but Ron Paul has got me convinced, again; to home educate children through high school.

Also, if you do not intend to plan your own home education program, or do not intend to do child-led home education, then I think Ron Paul's curriculum may be for you. He does aim his curriculum at the top 20% though, sadly. He offers some lessons for free to test it out, and also has a money-back guarantee.

I would recommend this book to anyone who might be considering home education, I also think anyone in high school would benefit to know that their textbooks were rewritten and that a lot of the information is inaccurate. Maybe even teachers, as I think just knowing that the lecture method does not really work could give them some insight to try something else.

The Revolution is a much more important Ron Paul book for the everyday person, but I think this is great for parents, and I wish more parents knew that this is an option and that they would not have to do much to home educate. The main work is in the early years, during playschool and elementary. When the student starts to self-educate (around "fourth grade"), less and less intervention is needed. By or during middle school they should be able to self-educate.

I love his recommendation for home educated students to post essays online weekly on a blog, that it will help students feel more motivation to spend time writing instead of doing so last minute so that they do not feel embarrassed about posting.

A real solution for improving education.in the USA.

I started reading this and couldn't put it down until I had finished. Now, I must admit that I read it fast.... now I'm in the process of re-reading for all of the details. It isn't a soluton for everyone... it takes a definite commitment for 1 parent, especially for the parent of students kindergarden through third grade. As students get older and more experienced in the process, the time committment decreases significantly. And it probably works the best for the top 20-30% of children. I have been a teacher, 7th-12th graders for over 40 years, and have also taught college classes. I have seen the dumbing down of students during those years. And sometimes the parents contribute to that process by not wanting students to have low grades or having to do any work. This book is definitely not for those parents. But if parents want students that really learn, to become liberty minded, know how to lead, and understand how to learn, this book shows the way! And, it even shows parents and students a way to cut college costs significantly. The book also uses the power of tecnology to help students learn. As you can tell, I think this is a great book and definitely worth the money.

An honest review from a huge Ron Paul fan

I am a huge Ron Paul fan, so I will try and give this from as objective perspective as I can.

Dr. Paul's book does a nice job of pointing out the problems with our current education system and the fallacy in the idea that well-meaning parents can fight against bureaucrats or administrators. This is something I agree with.

Now, a couple of the fallacies I picked up:

1. There is no mention of what single parents should do.
2. Dr. Paul endorses online universities, and specifically mentions University of Phoenix. While I don't mean to pick on folks who attend this institution, I can't help but assume that they have a fighting chance going up against applicants for med/law schools who attended a traditional 4-yr school. Also, I have a friend who works on Wall Street. He states the MBA's fighting for jobs there come from places like USC, Duke, Northwestern, Ivy league schools, etc. I imagine a guy with an online MBA from U of Phoenix would have no shot. That's not to say that U of Phoenix has no practical purpose - I'm sure there are tons of successful folks that have graduated from there. I think it's just a mistake to assume that there isn't a huge disadvantage to these kinds of folks.
3. Dr. Paul continually assumes that students can easily earn 2 years of college credit while in high school. I would argue that these folks represent 20-25% of students.
4. Towards the end of the audiobook, Dr. Paul rails against "Keynesian liberalism." I hate this kind of liberalism, too, but the tone of his message and this phrase itself seems somewhat juvenile.

Don't get me wrong, this is still a great book because it really makes you think about the education system. More importantly, it isn't just a bunch of whining about how things are, it really constructively offers alternatives.

As a parent of an infant (who is my first child), I can't honestly say that I'm going to go the route suggested in the book. However, I'm glad I bought this audiobook, and I enjoyed listening to it. I strongly recommend this book for anyone who's a libertarian or who wants to critically think about our education system.

Clear, to the point, convincing

I had been anticipating this book for a while, but I must say it was slightly different than I had expected. I expected more about the history/politics of schooling in the US and where it has gone wrong. That is discussed but is not the focus of The School Revolution.

This work is more an explanation of Dr. Paul's position on education: where it is now, where it is going, and how his curriculum represents the future. He compares current schools to the Post Office in that he predicts their demise via cheaper alternatives (email is to the post office as online schooling is to state schools). He offers his curriculum as one of the alternatives to state-run education. I had not anticipated nor previously heard his predictions for the future of schooling in America, but by the end of the book I found myself agreeing that his model of education appears to be a good indication of what will eventually become widespread throughout the country.

In typical Ron Paul fashion, it is a short book, clear, easy to read, and to the point. If you are discouraged with the current state of government run education and are considering alternatives, or are simply worried about the future of education in America, this is a must read.
