In her very successful book, The Schwarzbein Principle, renowned endocrinologist Diana Schwarzbein introduced her scientifically proven conclusion that degenerative diseases are not genetic, but acquired.

Many studies have supported this, proving that life expectancy is 75 to 90 percent due to habits and only 10 to 25 percent due to genetics. This means that someone who is genetically destined to die at age 100 may not live past age 60 because of poor habits and lifestyle choices that cause accelerated aging and premature death. Conversely, a person can live to 100 and be functionally healthy.

In this highly anticipated follow-up, Diana Schwarzbein, M.D., goes beyond the diet she introduced in her first book—which literally helped thousands of people lose weight—and offers a personalized anti-aging program for readers to heal their metabolisms and stop advanced aging in its tracks.

Weaving in groundbreaking research and provocative case studies—including her own regeneration and that of her clients—she leads readers through a series of eye-opening questionnaires, which identify where they are on their path to either accelerated or healthy aging.

Based on readers’ answers, she leads them to the “how-to” sections, which explain, in easy-to-follow and personalized detail, the steps they need to take to restore healthy functioning. For each unique situation, she covers five areas: Nutrition , Hormone Replacement Therapy (if needed), Tapering Off Toxic Chemicals or Avoiding Them Completely , Cross-Training Exercises and Stress Management.

The Schwarzbein Principle II is sure to follow the success of the first book and will help people live a more healthful lifestyle by embracing a regeneration process to prevent and reverse accelerated aging.

Helpful and informative for digestive issues.

I have spent countless hours in the last two years researching and researching non mainstream nutrition and have become immensely more healthy because of it. This book takes most of all the good Ive found and has it in an easy to read format that non scientifically minded people will easily understand. It gives great advice on how to become healthy like we are supposed to be, with no drugs, stimulants (like coffee), and without needing to exercise to death like those poor fools on The Biggest Loser (almost all of which gain the weight back that they lost on the show very quickly. This book explains why that occurs).

If you want to become healthy without doing cardio twenty five hours a week and without limiting carbs or protein or fats (which ARE good, despite the mainstream health advice which has obviously failed us. Just look at the people around you. Disgusting most of the time), if you want to stop having acid reflux or pains throughout your body or you want to get pregnant when its been next to impossible to get so, if you want to stop having brain fog and fatigue, then this is the best book I can recommend (Ive read tons of books, "scientific" studies, blogs, forums, on everything from low fat to low carb to zero carb to high carb to high fat and many more). It will explain everything, give testimonies and stories, and a very good eating plan. BUY THIS BOOK. You can get it used for like $5.

Very good book on how your body's system tie together and how you can turn your metabolism around after you have it out of wack. I was not aware that all my years of caffeine use could throw my metabolism off, but since I got off sugar and coffee I have noticed how much better rested I feel and don't feel the need to snack like I did.
This is a slow lifelong solution to forever change and improve the damage you have created through dieting and excessive living.
The doctor can be a bit long winded and often repeats herself. But the information was new and eye opening to me and I have read many books trying to combat my insulin resistance.

This is a must read for everyone. Especially for Type AAA Personalities. I just wish I had access to this information decades ago when I actually was in real trouble but no doctor would have diagnosed what seemed to them as good indicators (e.g. very low blood pressure.)
I had Googled my symptoms and spent 1000s of hours of research trying to understand what was wrong with me without success. I was having symptoms that were things you would see in the movie "The Andromeda Strain." The Doctors almost had me believe that I was just crazy. Well, it was all in this book. Paradoxical effects of mine weren't actually paradoxical after the author Dr. Schwarzbein explained what was going on. Unfortunately, because all the elements of my health have been pegged to the extreme for most of my life and I'm getting kind of old, I'm not sure that I'm in a recoverable situation. But at least I know a lot of the reasons why my health failed. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of doctors like Dr. Schwarzbein who put the whole picture together. Most Doctors just diagnose Psychiatric Conditions when there are real physical problems. Anyway, I appreciate the book and it really pulled me out of a near death experience (increased exercise causing higher and higher blood pressure) brought about by listening to other doctors. The bottom line for me: Exercise can kill but it just takes a little longer.

What little advice or guidance that can be gleaned from this book is extremely hard to decipher and would be even harder to implement. The physician-author apparently thinks everyone has endless time and money to follow an extremely particular diet and exercise regime. I read a lot of health books and this one was almost a total waste of money and time.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first book of Schwarzbein and have been following it with good results. So, since I enjoy reading, I was very interested in reading book 2. Even for someone who enjoys reading it took a lot of willpower to get through the whole 500 page book without quitting. The first half is a great deal of technical information that is boring and extremely repetitive. (The whole book could have been condensed into 150 pages easily.) The second half of the book is about the plan itself. It was very discouraging to be following one way from her original book and then she changes a lot in the second book. Like maybe she wasn't right after all. So, to sum it up it ends up leaving you wondering whether she knows what she is talking about or not. The good news is I think that the general way of eating is great, but I have a hard time with being fully convinced in view of her changes (regarding saturated fats, amounts of grams, now having to weight proteins, etc.). I hope this helps.

I have had adrenal issues along with insulin resistance for years. I found this Dr. on YouTube with the Survival of the Smartest talk and finally I have answers and goals. I am so excited that I finally have a course of action. This book is great and organized in a way that you can find what you need.

The subject material (the effects of hormones on body metabolism and the health implications of metabolic imbalances) is complicated but the author writes in a very definitive and lucid manner that makes it 'average reader ready'. There are three books in the series and I bought them all but have read only this one. If this one is representative of the others then it was money was well spent.

The book is presented with many subheadings and adequate white space so the reader isn't faced with endless unbroken narrative.

Tremendous insights into health and well being - how to get there and stay there. If you are sick - read it. If you are well - read it so you stay that way.

It may seem strange to give 5 stars to a book that disapointed me. Get one or the other, there is not much difference, but the information on cutting carbs is so much better advise than what you will get from your doctor who toes the national diabetes association's line so I still have to recommend it.
