Those of us who read The Third Son know what went down...
I found myself asking, "What's going to happen next?" The love story of Serge and Isabelle draws you in, and though both knew each other since childhood, they find that they still have more to learn about each other in order to truly unite and grow as a couple.
And I LOVED the lady knights of Barony (the third book is about them, and I will be reading that one as well). These women were truly a sisterhood, and they were total badasses.
Okay, if I don't end this review I'm going to start babbling and dropping spoilers, but suffice it to say that this was a GREAT read--and I don't even read romance or historical romance. You know the author has done her job when she can entertain both readers and non-readers of her genre.
I'm not sure if I'll venture further into romance genre, but I will do so if Elise Marion is penning it.
Things aren't good right now. The rebel army has multiplied greatly in the years since Isabelle has been in hiding. She was sent to Cardenas twenty years ago to escape the rebel force that had risen up to overthrow the kingdom. To save the royal family line from extinction, the king of Barony had negotiated a betrothal between Isabelle and Lionus, the crowned prince. Once they got married, Lionus and Isabelle would be the new king and queen of both Cardenas and Barony, preserving the royal line for generations to come. The two families and countries could unite and the rebel force would be destroyed so Barony could be at peace once again. Unfortunately, Lionus had died. Damien and Esmeralda are the rulers and Damien can't wed Isabelle because he's already married. This creates a big problem because the people expect their princess to take her rightful place on the throne.
Damien wants to send Isabelle back to Barony with Serge as her king. Things will be good. Serge will be king of Barony and Damien will be king of Cardenas and they can join forces against their enemy. Serge has a crush on Isabelle, but wonders if Isabelle can get over her love and first husband, Lionus. Either way Isabelle will have to remarry, so why not marry someone she has known her entire life? Can she fall in love with Serge? : ) I'm not telling!!!!!!
One of my favorite scenes in the book is the exchange of gifts. Isabelle gives Serge the original sword of the kings of Barony. She wanted him to have an heirloom to pass down to their heir and says, `This will be the new sword of the kings.' He's deeply touched and then gives her a dagger with a jeweled hilt. He also gives her a book called "The Ballad of Hua Mulan." Serge opens it to the first page and tells her it was her father's. She is teary-eyed and so was I!!!!!
The unique, engaging, unforgettable, and extraordinary characters are what made this book so great. Well that, and lots of blooming romance and chemistry. And I just loved the plot, and how everything is spun together to weave this brilliant romance. The setting and time frame is just so well done. I enjoyed this book so much. This is a unique but powerful love story that will stay with me forever. Yeah, I loved it that much!
I loved this second book of the series. Isabelle and Serge are wonderful characters and I love how this story adds to and compliments the first. I also loved the introduction to the lady warriors or Barony. What a concept, which I am now reading in The Lady Knights of Barony.
Bravo, Ms. Marion you are indeed a force to be reconned with and you are officially now added to my favorite list.
My advise, IF IT'S WRITTEN BY ELISE MARION at least give it a shot.
