Like many others i have been waiting for this expansion for quite a while. So far i have not been disappointed. The pets look pretty awesome, the ability to control your pets adds a whole new experience to the game...HORSES!!!!! whhhhaaat??? pretty awesome! As a previous owner of "Unleashed" for the sims and pets for 2 i can say this is waaay better, one thing i was looking forward was a new career as a pet trainer or something similar, so far i haven't seen that in the game, if it's there i will be very happy, if not, oh well. I give this game 5 stars because i haven't been thru everything the expansion has to offer and im already having a blast, that can only mean that whatever's still there for me to discover can only be good. Love the new town as well. Very happy!
Alright, lets begin from the start with what's so awesome about this game.
when you first install, you see the loading screen and while blue is a lot of people's favorite color, the loading screen is not too interesting, but at this point, who cares, you just want to play! Once you get to the main menu, the first awesome thing is yes...A new town, very exciting, it's an autumn like place with mountains and plenty of space for your new pets to roam around but specially i think it was designed with the horses in mind, you will find water and hay for your horses all over town, it's a beautiful small town and i believe all the buildings on it are new...also you get a cat jungle and dog park and an equestrian center with training grounds for your horses, i like it.Read more ›
-There are now wildlife such as snakes and deer
-You can collect certain wildlife, like turtles
-Not only are there horses, but there are also unicorns
-Horse jumps can be adjusted to the horse's skill level
-Not only can you control your pets, but they have wishes too
-Neighbors can have a litter of dogs or cats and can invite you over to adopt one
-Pets can damage objects, like cats scratching furniture
Overall, I've heard nothing but good things about this expansion. I'd say it is worthy of 5 stars. Hope you enjoy it!
There are new pet-themed traits and LTWs. All in all, a little bit for any/all animal lovers - but this expac is really focusing on the horse (Im guessign since this is it's first intro into the Sims).
Horses can be built for speed and agility then put into races/competitions for money. They have their own lists of LTR that are exclusive to them while dogs/cats share the same type of (less exciting) LTRs.
Even the smallest of the pets require care and like real pets, just bringing them home isnt the end of the road.
Terrariums must be cleaned, wood chips and food pellets must be replaced. You can teach your birds to talk (which I thought was a hoot) and they'll say all sorts of things as people pass by them.
While some of the expacs are gimmicks (World Adventures, Ambitions) and some are more genre-related (Late Night), imo, this one adds to the overall Sims experience. If you live in a rural area especially, you can appreciate waking up to find deer eating at your garden, racoons rummaging your garbage can or the occasional stray dog tearing your morning paper apart. Or walking out your door to find people walking their pets to the dog park.Read more ›
When I purchased this from Amazon, I started the download. Once it was done, I began to install it. This is why I am giving this 4 stars instead of 5. The install process was a nightmare. I am not sure if I would have had the same experience had I purchased the game on DVD, but I did not, so I do not know. The game would not install until an update was completed. That is fine. Used to that. So I said yes, update, and got the dreaded Cannot connect to the download manager. Well, ok, lets reboot my laptop. Again, same thing. Weird. Run the Sims 3 as administrator, maybe that is the issue. Same thing. By now, I have rebooted the computer a few times, disabled many things, turned off the AV program, turned off the firewall, rebooted again and again... so I google it. Seems I am not the only one who had this issue. I finally found a post suggesting people having this issue download Origin. So I googled that, and found out Origin is the new download manager for EA games. Great, oh joy. Yet another program to fill up my already limited hard drive space. But I am desperate to play Sims 3 Pets, so I did just that. And was finally able to update TS3, and install the downloaded Pets expansion. YES!!! Finally!!!
The game, once in, is great. I have played it less than my son, I admit that. My play time has been a few hours total. I created a new Sim and purchased her a home in the new town (Appaloosa?). She adopted a cat, then adopted another one later.Read more ›
