You managed to do again in season 2 what you did in season 1: you left us all hanging... again. I was hoping for some resolution, an end to the endless nights staring at my ceiling, waiting breathlessly for season 2. Now that I have binged it, I am again left with that same feeling. I will again lie sleepless, tortured, for weeks, nay, possibly years, until when? Until season 3.
Let me be really clear: unless a third season is produced and produced soon, I may very well drop dead of insomnia. So please... if you have any compassion for your fellow man... please... make a third season.

The Man in the High Castle: Mind Blowing and Believable!This series is amazing! I was hooked from the first episode and for multiple reasons.
First, the premise is radically different from anything we would normally think about: Japan and Germany won World War II, with Japan occupying everything west of the Rocky Mountains, Germany occupying everything east of the Rocky Mountains, and the Rockies themselves being neutral territory, occupied by neither.
Second, the sets are phenomenal. In the very first episode, you find yourself believing that you are seeing 1960 California occupied by the Japanese and the difference in how things would appear is just so real and so believable. Every set all the way through the series is believable in ways that I can't even begin to describe. A lot of money, a lot of thought, and a lot of talent went into the development of the sets alone.
Third, the script is crisp, credible, and certified great. The cast for this series is perfectly selected, the series is well acted in accordance with the superior script, and everything matches perfectly with the well developed concept and the sets and scenery. You will believe that you are really experiencing what life would have been like under the occupancy of these two axis powers. There is also the expected resistance movement, which is fighting back against both powers, and, as you may imagine, the suspense in each episode dealing with the activities of the various characters fighting for the resistance, some unknowingly and some reluctantly, is real and palpable. Every episode will leave you with your mouth hanging open in shock, disbelief and the desire to see the next episode as soon as possible.
Fourth, and most important, there is a subtle mystery that one picks up on in the very first episode, a mystery that only grows as the series progresses. Occasionally, there are glimpses through the veil of the real character of the mystery, but it's illusory and constantly escaping the viewer. You will never know for sure the character of the mystery until the very last moment of the very last episode, and episode which, in my opinion, comes all too soon. The mystery adds so much to the overall complexity of the series, and it will constantly have you striving to figure out what it is. Far be it from me to act the spoiler. You'll have to see it for yourself.
I cannot recommend this series highly enough. I have to commend Amazon for obtaining the rights to the book, which is the basis for the series, for their investment in and faith in the project, and for bringing it to fruition with the best of talent at every level and in every department. This is a superior series in every way. Thank you, Amazon, for producing this remarkable, wonderful series. I can't wait for the next one.

It's not in the category of a Game of Thrones or Outlander, given that it's only two seasons long, but it is in every other way superior. I would watch this series religiously, if it were 50 seasons long. It is just too interesting, too suspenseful,

Watch a Good Show Mature into a MasterpieceSo I heard lots of good things about Season 1, so I decided to watch it since I had Prime anyways. At first, I really liked the idea and setting, but I had a really hard time getting into the show. I liked the characters in general, there was good character building, good acting, the directing wasn't bad, and the way they set situations up was awesome. But something about the pacing was just boring, but I forced myself to keep on in hopes of it living up to expectations. The last few episodes did just that, and I got really into the show.
This seasons picks up where the last one left off and then some. They took everything I loved about the first season and improved upon it, and the pacing went from boring to one of the best aspects. Every second leaves you excited and wanting more. It's like when you're reading a good book and you want to just skim through parts of the paragraphs to see what happens because you're on the edge of your seat. They set things up so perfectly, similar to the way Breaking Bad does. Small things that don't seem to matter early on come back and have a much larger impact than you would think. And the character building hasn't gotten even better. I care more about what happens to these characters than I have compared to other shows in a while. John Smith especially is such a great character, smart and manipulative and able to control people without them knowing like a puppeteer. They also have several things going at once, but not in a way like Game of Thrones that can leave viewers confused or mixed up. You always know what's going on, and if you pay enough attention you can see multiple story lines coming together like intricate puzzle pieces.
Overall, this season has really stepped it up. It went from being a show I enjoyed and was interested enough in to keep up with to a show I consider top 5 if it keeps up it's current pace. I'm actually sad that I decided to watch Season 2 so early because now I have to wait an entire year before the next season!

Try it - you'll like it!No, I am not an expert film critic, reviewer or paid to give my reviews. I've also never read anything before Phillip k. Dick before either. I'm just your average every-day Joe.
This is the first ever 'movie' I have rated 5 stars. I think if you try it, you'll like it.
I enjoyed both Seasons 1 and 2 - after I gave it a chance.
Honestly, I started watching because I lean toward sci-fi type movies. I could see by early season one that this is truly not a Sci-Fi movie and almost did not give it a chance thinking it was a romance or some other type movie I do not regularly watch.
Basically, it's a 'What if' type TV series based on an alternative past of world history that seems to cover all the basis concerning the question.
I felt almost everything about the movie - the actors, the props, the scenery - all were superb. The only disappointment that I have with this TV series is the (I don't want to give away any spoilers) weak Sci-Fi part of the show. Which in hindsight is funny because it was the reason I watched the show to begin with. However, to me, it's not a critical flaw.
My only regrets are the binge watching I did (it was like a good book - hard to put down) that made me tired for work the next day.
Sure hope some day there is a Season 3.

Slow paced alternative history drama posits thought provoking "what if's"?Really this is a 3.5 star review for the second season of Amazon's original series; "The Man in the High Castle" based on a sci-fi novel by author Philip K. Dick. The premise is an alternative history view of America in the 60's if the Allies had lost WWII and is now occupied on the east coast by the Nazi's and west coast by the Japanese (or "Pons" as they're called by the resistance- short for Nippon I guess as it's never explained.) Being a history buff and WWII being a particular area of interest it's both disturbing and engaging to see what might have been. The primary plotline carrying over from season one to two involves a series of films which document events that are counter to the current known truths challenging what everyone believes. Where do they come from, what do they mean? We still don't really know. We meet the titular character this season but it's hardly a revelation and the viewer still doesn't learn any answers to the former stated questions. There are other sub plots that evolve as well involving resistance fighters and for one alternate reality "traveler" on the west coast, family issues for Obergruppenfuhrer Smith on the east coast, and political intrigue in Berlin.
The cast all does a fine job, Rufus Sewell as an former American officer who's gone over to the Nazi's and is now a high powered SS officer is quite good. Alexa Davalos as Juliana Craine is very pretty and compelling as someone who's gotten embroiled in circumstances she never bargained for.
Visually the show's depictions of what Berlin would be like if the 8th AF and RAF hadn't bombed it into rubble are stunning. CGI imagined grand architecture of new buildings and vast meeting spaces look just like they came from the drawing board of Albert Speer and add authenticity. Hitler's office however was way too tiny when compared to the massive space he occupied in the old Reich Chancellery from photos I've seen.
All in all "The Man in the High Castle" included for free for Amazon Prime members is an entertaining bonus that should appeal to historical fiction fans, sci-fi aficionados, and those who admire the work of Mr. P.K. Dick. Just don't expect it all to make perfect sense and just go with it.

All in all "The Man in the High Castle" included for free for Amazon Prime members is an entertaining bonus that should appeal to historical fiction fans, sci-fi aficionados, and those who admire the work of Mr. P.K. Dick. Just don't expect it all to make perfect sense and just go with it.

I Still Like It, Mostly.I should say that what I like about The Man in the High Castle is not the "whole thing," but the troubled characters and the very troubling atmospherics of an account of life in the USA, post WWII, with the Empire of Japan occupying the Pacific states, and the German Reich occupying all of the USA from the Atlantic to the Rockies. Of course there is a small but plucky Resistance, and the heroine of the series, played with fetching sensitivity by Alexa Davalos, ping pongs from one end of the country to the other, mostly on behalf of the Resistance. I'm sure there are better ways to suggest briefly what's going on in this series based on a Philip Dick story, but I'm plugging away with the idea of parallel universes that seem to be connected by a fragile thread of motion picture films. The Germans and the Japanese want these films, and the Resistance seems to be dedicated to protecting them. I'm dutifully watching every episode, because I'm intrigued by the situation of warps in time and space and by the characters of this drama, but I'm consistently thinking at the end of each hour long episode that what I've seen is fifteen minutes of crackling action stretched over sixty minutes of delay and hesitation. Every line of dialogue seems to be read as if the weight of the world rested on it. It gets ponderous and a bit pretentious. But I still like it, mostly.

Dont listen to professional movie critics... Judge this season 2 for yourself... Every bit as good if not better than season 1.I really don't understand all the bad reviews of The Man in the High Castle Season 2 from critics such as Vox… It's as if these critics lived in an alternate reality than that of those who have watched & enjoyed this amazingly paced and superbly acted season 2.
The cast is fantastic from the ruthless yet human Obergruppenfuhrer Smith and his brainwashed family to Alexa Davalos’ grippingly ambivalent portrayal of Juliana Crain’s conflicted purpose in this second season as she treads perilous waters between three major opposing forces. The multilayered exposition of characters is very well paced thanks to the show's length of 10 episodes as we get to understand each and every main character's seasonal arc in the grander context of the film without being spoon fed too many cliches. The only character that was somewhat annoying to me at one point was Frank but that served a purpose and Frank redeems himself at the end of the season. It is no small feat for the authors (original writer and screenplay adaptors) and creators (producers, filmmakers, artists, actors) of this show to make us believe this freightful alternate reality where the Pons and the Nazis rule a world that is every bit as believable and frail as ours with all its daily authoritarian under and overtones. The Manichean premise of a battle between good and evil forces effaces itself over the course of the show to unearth subtle mechanics and virtues of our human condition thanks to a well paced, produced and directed show.
I won’t divulge what happens during this season 2 series, but I found it every bit as enthralling as season 1 if not more.
Don’t let naysayers prevent you from watching it, take your time there’s no need to binge watch it if you can’t. I didn’t do it over a weekend (ok it only took me 6 days ;) and it made me think of many things that are currently happening in our present world, and what could be or could have been, sometimes one small act can change the course of much greater events from a historical context. The Man in the high castle season 2 presents a compelling such series of events in a highly believable fashion. Highly recommended & can't wait for season 3. Amazon please keep this show going! It's so much better than some of your other shows which may garner a larger audience but fall into the traps of facility... The Man in the High Castle is complex and multifaceted teeming with emotional & ambivalent content, that's why many of us love it.

What A Show.I was unsure of this season at first in terms of direction. The setting is very different, but the characters we love, or love to hate, are all still forcefully present. The last few episodes were incredible. Though some scenes get tedious, and Frank's story arc seemed drawn out to me (Frank drives me crazy) Juliana and the Smith family and all the other characters just become more and more real. In season one I felt nothing for John Smith and this season I felt everything for him. The progression of the illness of his son and its consequences were heartbreaking and very touching to watch, and I loved the scene between Thomas and Juliana. The fact that the Smith family was given so much screen time was a wise choice, I believe, and helped ground the show. I wish Joe and Juliana had had some screen time together- regrettably the story line prevented it. I thought I would passionately hate Nicole, Joe's love interest, but the way the writers chose to introduce her, though worn out, at least made sense, especially as Joe believes Juliana is dead. I was also amazed once again at the richness of the setting, the beautiful cinematography and costumes. The man in the High Castle himself, and the mystery of the films starts to become clear all at once, especially in the last episode. This is television, folks, and there's nothing else out there like this.
