Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town that celebrates Halloween 365 days a year.
The tourists think it's all a show: the vampires, the werewolves, the witches, the occasional gargoyle flying through the sky. But the supernaturals populating the town know better.
Living in Nocturne Falls means being yourself. Fangs, fur, and all.
After seeing her maybe-mobster boss murder a guy, Delaney James assumes a new identity and pretends to be a mail order bride. She finds her groom-to-be living in a town that celebrates Halloween every day. Weird. But not as weird as what she doesn't know. Her groom-to-be is a 400-year-old vampire.
Hugh Ellingham has only agreed to the arranged setup to make his overbearing grandmother happy. In 30 days, whatever bridezilla shows up at his door will be escorted right back out. His past means love is no longer an option. Not if the woman's going to have a future. Except he never counted on Delaney and falling in love for real.
Too bad both of them are keeping some mighty big secrets....

There’s a little bit of world building at first, and I always expect that in the first story of a series, but it felt like information given naturally in conversation or in passing. It certainly wasn’t an information dump, and I appreciate that.
Since you have the general idea of this story from the Cover Description, let’s move on to the characters. Hugh has been backed into a corner by his grandmother. She wants grand-babies in the worst possible way and of her grandsons, Hugh is her best bet. To her it’s beside the point that Hugh is still grieving his first wife, who did not survive the transition. He has vowed to never put another woman that he loves through that again, so he’s a man who dates, even has short term relationships but he will never, ever commit to one woman. Didi (grandma) has put into play a scheme to change Hugh’s mind by having a woman come to stay with him for one month as part of a matchmaking service. He, of course, is angry and eventually wears down and agrees to at least let this woman stay for the month, but at the end of that time his grandmother will cease forever in her meddling ways. But he never expected this particular woman to capture his attention.
Delaney is on the run, for her life and desperately grabs at an opportunity that presents itself. In flight after witnessing something she shouldn’t have seen, Delaney dashes into a shop in the hopes of hiding for a few minutes. By sheer luck, she’s wandered into a matchmaking business and the owner is looking for an assistant, as she mistakenly thinks that is why Delaney is there. Left alone for a few minutes, Delaney overhears a phone conversation and gets a brilliant idea. She can pretend to be one of these matches, one of these ladies looking for a husband sight unseen. No photos, no ID… yeah, that could work for a while at least. Grabbing a file folder she takes off on an adventure to someplace called Nocturne Falls, Georgia. Hopefully that’s far enough away from Brooklyn and the boss she saw kill someone. Delaney has no idea of the truth of the supernatural town she’s running to – or that this desperate decision will change her life forever.
The Vampire’s Mail Order Bride is… well, I’m going to call it a lighthearted paranormal romp. It’s light, funny, with witty banter and completely relatable and believable characters (for their situation). I had no trouble at all falling into this world and simply going with it. The story is full of interesting secondary characters who play an important part in the overall story… and I’m sure many will have their own tales to tell at some point in the series. I liked these people, well for the most part there are, of course the, villains to consider. I could “see” this town, it became familiar and that is part of the enjoyment of any story for me. I happen to like those little details. They enhance my reading experience.
Hugh and Delaney are a compelling couple. At first, each is holding back information and not being completely honest about their situation. But as time moves on they begin to like each other and it’s no longer natural to hold everything back. Of course, just as they each decide to make their big reveal that information is tossed out by someone else bent on revenge. On the surface it might seem that Hugh accepted the truth about Delaney a bit too easily. I felt that he was falling for her, and knew that he had some big information to tell her as well since it now seems obvious she has no idea she’s living among true supernaturals. She might be using a false name to hide from someone who’s out to kill her – but he hasn’t told her that he’s a vampire, with a strong attraction to her… yeah, there were enough reasons to accept Hugh’s reaction.
In among the lighthearted banter, and funny moments is a very serious thread as Hugh must come to terms with his feelings for Delaney – and his fear of loving any woman again. He has some issues that he needs to work through. With Delaney’s help he can become all that she believes in, but he must let go of the past to move forward with her.
I really enjoyed The Vampire’s Mail Order Bride and I’m looking forward to continuing the series. If you’re in the mood for some banter, a bit of mystery, and a fun couple to enjoy then this is a story that I think you’d like. I’d recommend it to any Paranormal Romance reader.
Hugh is in a predicament with his well-loved grandmother. She wants him to find love and make a family. Oh, his grandmother has specific ideas and puts stuff into motion. Nocturne Falls, Ga, isn't what she was expecting, butter this kitschy place has a charm all its own. Wow, Hugh is so old-fashioned, but I like it. That this old vampire still speaks as if he is from another century. I also love that Delaney is an adult who can make decisions for herself, but she is full of sass and innuendos. I love that her personality shines so much, even when she is pretending.
This book is strangely absurd, but I love it because of that. The butler is wise, and I love how patient he is; of course, he figures it out. It couldn't get any worse; a bargain of sorts with the older woman now has her up to her eyeballs in deception and her dreams on the line.
Ah, the truth emerges unexpectedly through the characters' responses to seem more honest than lies. However, his reality has yet to be out. Apparently, as they get closer, his truth does come out in full. I like his protective instincts and her fearless personality. I like the book's direction: a little suspense, fear, and a new paranormal. I like how this book ends. This was a lovely light read.
I loved how quirky the characters were; they impressed me. The whole storyline is unforgettable but a great read.

No potential triggers
There is a little swearing and one sex scene lightly written.
The characterisation is good and the plotline engaging enough to keep you turning the pages.
It's a typical example of the genre, and I have to say that I read the reviews AFTER I purchased the book and was dismayed at the negative ones.
I'm GLAD I bought the book, it did exactly what I wanted it to - provided a distraction from every day life. I have no idea what those negative reviewers were expecting but would like to say to potential readers that you should make your own mind up.
There are a few errors, and a couple of obvious plot holes but it doesn't kill the book.
I will probably purchase the next book in the series.

Hugh is a vampire who has no intention of tying the knot. His grandmother has other ideas. She wants grandbabies and there is no better way to surprise him by ordering a mail order bride. No matter. He will go along with her. As long as he meets her conditions, he can revert to being a bachelor.
Delaney has just witnessed a crime and as fate would have it, she finds the perfect escape. Become an impersanator. No one will be none the wiser if she tricks her way into becoming the selected bride. Only she has no intention of seeing it through once the danger of being captured has passed.
When she meets Hugh, she doesn't have a clue that he is a vampire. They like each other well enough, but underneath it all there is an attraction. Hugh does his best to ignore it and fails miserably. What happens when she finds out that he is a vampire and he finds that she isn't the one he has been expecting?
This is a light and fun read. There is some drama and suspense. There is also the devious ex. It's a good concept and the characters are very well portrayed. There is a little panic towards the end, but all is well that ends well. An enjoyable read indeed.

I downloaded the Audible version of this book and was impressed with B.J. Harrison's performance; the pace of his narration was just right and I enjoyed his vocal variances for the dialogue.
There is absolutely no offensive content within these pages - language, violence or sex - and so I can recommend it to lovers of charming, paranormal romance tales that enjoy a sprinkling of humour and a happily ever after ending of any age.

I haven't had this much fun with a paranormal romance novel in a long time. It's simple premise brought alive with colourful endearing characters (including a large cat, and who doesn't love cats) and roller-coaster twists and turns that keep you glued to it.
As paranormal romances go, I have to say it was a pleasant surprise to see this book deliver a wonderful love story without resorting to graphic sex scenes. Instead the romantic scenes tasteful and implicit, bringing you all the love without naming a single erogenous body part.
I didn't want this book to end. I wanted to see the couple have more interactions with his ex, her ex-boss, I wanted to go to their wedding, see her realise her dream, meet their first born ... my imagination can see so much in their future I and I wanted to be part of it.
And who knows, hopefully I'll get my wish come true, as this is the first book in the Nocturne Falls series, and I've already purchased and started reading the next one 'The Werewolf Meets His Match'. Just a great start to a series. Buy it now!

This is the first book I've read by Painter, and I downloaded this for free.
It was an awful lot of fun!
This was a light-hearted about mixed identities, conniving grandmothers, and all manner of supernatural creatures.
Delaney is driven by her survival instinct, that she doesn't give much thought about driving across the country to live in a strange man's house for a month. She doesn't know anything about him, except his name and address, but it seems like the best gamble she can take right now.
I really liked Delaney, she is fun, outspoken, and very open-minded about the people she has gone to live with (when she finally finds out what they are).
Hugh is a vampire, and hundreds of years old. He has no intention of committing to a serious relationship, but unfortunately, his pushy grandmother has made plans. Hugh reluctantly agrees to let this mystery woman stay for one month, but has no romantic intentions towards her...
Hugh is the perfect gentleman, he is kind and noble, and he helps run the town his family founded. He's just such a nice guy.
The plot is good for a romantic comedy, as the threat of the gangsters hovers in the background.
And the Halloween-based town is a lot of tongue-in-cheek fun. Oh yeah, and there's a bit with a cat - I love Delaney's cat!
The ending felt a bit rushed. After the characters both being uninterested in commitment for so long, that they want to rush two very big decisions.
Overall, I really enjoyed this light read, and I'm interested in seeing what the res of Nocturne Falls gets up to in the sequels!
