In this short ebook, lawyer and bio-ethicist Wesley Smith explores the increasingly anti-human attitudes of many in the media, the government, and parts of the environmental movement. Smith argues that ideas that used to be regarded as extreme are now being mainstreamed: proposals for coercive population control and efforts to grant legal rights not only to animals but plants and the Earth itself Nature. Smith is not anti-environment, and he praises many of the achievements of the environmental movement. Nor is he anti-animal--he makes clear that we have a duty to treat animals humanely. But he persuasively argues that our growing obsession with nature rights will ultimately lead to the widespread violation of human rights and human dignity. This book is a must read for anyone interested in environmental politics, animal rights, and population issues. There are plenty of hyperlinked footnotes for anyone who wants to do further research, and there is even a 30-minute documentary featuring Smith that is linked from the book.

A healthy way to get scared straight. Clearly, what is uncovered here is the dark side. Gay marriage prevents conception, abortion murders before conscious life can begin, and now the loony side of environmentalism expects/wants to see 90% of us eliminated. And we thought Kosovo and Rwanda were ghastly! Smith shows us ghastly done very slowly.

This book details a movement that holds Genghis Khan in higher esteem than Mother Teresa. Unfortunately, they hold a great deal of power. At least the only people that Ebenezer Scrooge could make miserable were the Cratchits. These people imagine themselves the lords of Creation, and have designs on all of us.

Wesley J. Smith is a very well-informed observer, who can see very clearly through smoke screens. In this book, he explains what is going on behind the facade of political correctness that dominates the daily news. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to understand what is being done to the most vulnerable of all.

I'm only 1/3 of the way through the book and I decided to give my thoughts on it.

1) The book is short, so its an easy read.
2) It brings up many points that are often skipped over in today's media.
3) It's clear the author is taking a side on the issue, so if you want to hear a counter-argument to the (extreme) environmental movement then this book provides that.
4) While the author provides plenty of sources, his arguments can be a little weak at times. Wesley Smith isn't a scientist, but I'm sure he's educated.

This book gives the reader a look behind the "saving the earth" mask of the environmental movement, and not just the extremists either as well-meaning but ignorant people get sucked in to support the extremists garbage which has more to do about controlling people than clean water or air.

Short read but one worth the effort - perhaps it is time to man the barricades if we are to save the human race from the environmental nazies.
