Not Age Appropriate
on October 16, 2012
As one who has worked with children for many years, and as a parent, this book, though while clever enough, is not appropriate for the picture book crowd, which is typically people up through about age 7 or so. The people in the drawings look like zombies, and is generally macabre. Definitely not picture book fare.
Sure wish that I could get a hold of the sequel to find out the rest of the story.
Yet, I think that this book could be very appropriate for the age 8 & up reader. It is weird & creepy, but kids past about age 8 are able to determine fact from fancy.
Would make a great graphic novel, if expanded upon.
I tried to get the sequel, Beneath the Surface, via OCLC, but it is in only listed in one library in the United States. I am a public librarian, and my library owns this book; it was purchased before I came here.
I can see why the second book is scarce.
