Kade Mendelowitz is the Lighting Designer and Technical Director for the University of Alaska Fairbanks Department of Theatre & Film, where he is a Professor. He has authored two cross-platform (Mac and Windows) multimedia titles which teach about lighting or sound design. In 2012 he completed “The Messenger” - a feature length movie he wrote, directed, and edited which won an Indie award for Technical Merit and was a selection in the S.U.R.G.E. - Annual International Social Uprising Resistance and Grassroots Encouragement Film Festival. He created, wrote, and produced “Water Stealers” – an interactive sci-fi video adventure which combined live actors and animation, and put the viewer in control. It won the Platinum: Best in Show Aurora Award for 2004). He wrote and directed an interactive “Alice in Wonderland” in which the audience followed Alice and the White Rabbit down the rabbit hole, accompanying them on their adventures!

Reviews of his work include “The play boasts a fantastic set, with scene design by Kade Mendelowitz. The transition from one scene and business to another is absolutely flawless in its execution” for Nickel and Dimed reviewed by Scott McCrea for the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, November, 2013 and “The lighting imparts a suitably moody and mysterious atmosphere. And the set is lean and imaginative with an arch that seems like the portal dividing life from death, and a towering conical canopy through which the spirits emerge or retreat” for Hamlet Dreams reviewed by Robert Hannon, December, 2001.
