The Eagles are, without a doubt, one of the most influential American bands of all time. Direct from L.A., these musicians brought together various influences and melded them into a sound that established a new musical direction in both rock and country. Whether it isthe opening guitars driving the beat of Take It Easy or the lilting melody of Best Of My Love, the Eagles' tight harmonies, smooth lead vocals and masterful musicianship enable THEIR GREATEST HITS to play like a jukebox in country-rock heaven.
Certified Multi-Platinum (27 times) by the RIAA. (2/01)
The pre-Hotel California years were arguably the best for The Eagles (though there were, thanks to Joe Walsh, some stellar future moments). Their mix of country, folk, and rock had a harder, grittier edge, and helped define what would become known as the Southern California sound. There was just enough of a country feel in the beautiful harmonies of "Best of My Love," to blur the edges between the genres. "Take It Easy" and "Lyin' Eyes" could easily have come out of the new Nashville school, as well. The twang that characterizes the guitar intro to "Already Gone" and the leads in "Witchy Woman" and "One of These Nights," also pays tribute to country's guitar greats. Greatest Hits 1971-1975 houses a scant ten singles, but not only does it illustrate the magic of the collaboration between Glen Frey and Don Henley, it shows the breadth of The Eagles impact on the many who would follow their lead. --Steve Gdula

After I made it through side 1, I listened to my Apple lossless version of the same album burned from the DCC Classics CD (1993). SO MUCH BETTER! No one would ever listen to vinyl any more if this album was played side-by-side with my CD.
I got Styx The Grand Illusion and Led Zeppelin II in the same order and those reissues reminded me of the potential sound quality of vinyl.
For reference, my system consists of a Kenwood KD-750 with an Accuphase AC-2 cartridge, Belles 28A preamp, GAS Ampzilla amp (rebuilt by Mike Bettinger in 2011), and Infinity RSIIA speakers. For the digital comparison, I streamed the music from my laptop, through a Schiit EITR usb-SPDIF converter, to a Counterpoint DA-10.
Also, if you're a classic rock buff, this album is essential for your collection. In this greatest hits collection, there are only ten tracks to listen to, but these classic songs do not wear out on you. This collection also defines the early Eagles' creativity and diversity in their music. It shows Glenn Frey and Don Henley as two of the best songwriters in classic rock history.
The album has classic rockers such as "Take It Easy" (-recently chose as best song to cruise to) and "Already Gone". Wonderful relaxing classics consist of "Peaceful, Easy Feeling", "Best Of My Love", and "Tequila Sunrise". The songs are so soothing, they almost take you to another place where one can relax and watch a sunset (or "sunrise") while sipping a strong drink. "Take It To The Limit" is a beautiful collaboration of the bands vocal talents and songwriting. The song that strikes me the most on this album, though, is "Desperado". Every time I listen to this song, I get moved. . The song moves me with such original lyrics, absolutely incredible singing by Don, and flawless production. Gotta have tis album.
