Editorial Reviews

From the Author

"Theirs is the Kingdom" takes an in-depth look at the firstBeatitude in the Gospel of Matthew.  ThisLiving in the Light Bible Study endeavors to explain why Jesus told Hisfollowers that being "poor in spirit" is a blessing.  In our world today we are bombarded withmessages saying we need to know everything, be the best, strive for success andpower.  Jesus' words turn this thinkingliterally upside down--until you realize that it's the world that is livingupside down and Jesus was right all along.

The words of this Bible study guide are not so muchpreaching as a prayer--a prayer that you will learn to put into practice what Ihave come to understand over the last few years.  Coming into the understanding that when wecan embrace "I can't," that God can then step in and be the One who can in ourlives!  We are not meant to go it alone,to strive to become independent, and to feel like if we can't handle everythingput before us we are somehow failures.God never meant for us to do it alone. That is the very foundation of "blessed are the poor in spirit."

I wish I could put into these few words how the lessons inthis book have changed my life, how they have opened up a whole new world offreedom and grace and peace that I never knew existed when I was trying to bewhat everyone else said I should want to be or what I had to be.  This is a lesson in letting go and lettingGod, in letting God help you get your life right-side-up and keeping itthere.  Jesus was absolutely right... youare VERY blessed when you become poor in spirit.  Let this Bible study be your guide in showingyou just what Jesus meant by that and how amazing the Christian life can bewhen you really embrace and start living the first Beatitude.
