Review for "That Totally Fun Thing Bart Will Never Do Again". When most people think of recent The Simpsons seasons, you'll hear about how the quality of the jokes, characters and storyline has fallen off since the late 90s. However, this episode is one of the best in the series regardless of season. From Homers hilarious views on vacations, the montage of Barts week and even some deep existentialism, this episode has it all. It feels like an episode we'd get in the series prime. Filled with good writing, humor and even emotion, I feel like this belongs in the list of classic episodes.

As we all know, the Simpsons aren't what they used to be. Personally, I think that season 1 was alright, 2 was good, 3-5 were perfection, 6-8 were awesome, and 9 & 10 were good, with 9 encountering a few bumps (and shark jumps), but it was still entertaining in the early teens. But, as season 14 rolled around, they seemed to give up. The animation switched to digital, and many writers had quit or phoned in their talent. As season 20 showed up, the show seemed like a zombie, a re-animated carcass of something you once loved. Here, in their 23 year, the Simpsons finally made what I consider to be the best Simpsons season, post-digital. (P.S. if you want an example of their laziness watch the next season's treehouse of horror #23, it's sad how bad it is)
So, year 23, and the writers show some actual creativity, with great episodes like "the book job" with amazing author Neil Gaiman (read his work on sandman, it's beautiful) and "the incredibly fun thing that bart will never do again" or something like that, and the touching ending reminiscent of seasons 2 and 3, ironic it would be in season 2 and 3, 23. It has a few flops, and of course isn't in physical form (damn you fox!), but it's a better purchase than some other seasons you could encounter. I watched a season 26 episode recently, and was so appalled, I had forgotten how truly bad it has become. Don't even give it a chance. But this season, I give a rating of
3.5/5 stars

(.5 star credit for being the best digital season)

The Simpsons is not running out of steam by any means. This season is to be counted as outstanding among the other seasons after 19. It's a wonder that something this funny and intelligent has survived on television. But there you have it. Unbelievable things still happen.

In 2003 the Simpsons took a huge drop in quality. I stopped watching until 2014 when I started watching again. Impressed with the newer direction of the shoe, I began watching. Season 23 is great. Lot of good moments. Don't compare it to the "glory days" just take it for what it is-- an entertaining half hour.

How could a Simpsons DVD be anything but great. Some episodes are betterthan others, but it's all good, about the only thing worth watchin on Fox.

For the last few years the Simpsons have been rather inconsistent. I really enjoyed this episode, though, as the follow-up to what we all new and expected from the end of the prior season. Ned and Edna are so different its rather heart-warming seeing them try to make it work in Simpson land.
