If you've ever had the feeling that your sessions are getting stale, wondering what you could possibly do to breathe more life into them, then this is an essential book for you. It's jam packed with solid theory and very practical strategies for injecting excitement into your sessions and getting your clients unstuck. (David Van Nuys, Shrink Rap Radio)
“The Therapeutic “Aha!” provides a wealth of options for inspiring therapists to think outside of the proverbial box. . . . [Armstrong’s] idea of creating a mood-modifying playlist so resonated with me that I found myself recommending it to two separate clients just yesterday. . . . By being open to bringing new ideas into the practice of psychotherapy, we avoid becoming stuck ourselves, which can only serve to benefit our clients.”
- Metapsychology Online Reviews
“Armstrong understands that just as a person can become stuck in his or her patterns of thought, therapy itself can become stuck. . . . Reading Armstrong has already helped me stay engaged.”
“[A]n easy to understand explanation of how the emotional/reactive brain works and fun, creative strategies on how to help it change. . . . [T]his is a book which will teach you how to help others heal from trauma while igniting (or re-igniting) your passion for being a therapist. I highly recommend it.”
- Potential Not Pathology
“Written in a warm, friendly tone, Armstrong provides clinicians with fresh strategies for respectfully resolving resistance, engaging clients more fully in the change process, and inspiring hope and possibility in even their most challenging clients. ”
- Bill O'Hanlon, author of Do One Thing Different and The Change Your Life Book
“People learn and change through compelling emotional experiences much more than through logical discussion. The Therapeutic "Aha!" is a hands-on guide to creating and using emotional experiences to mismatch beliefs and create alternate futures. Building on her work in hypnosis and induction for trauma, Courtney Armstrong guides readers through a variety of methods to elicit healing through "memory reconsolidation." It is practical and accessible, informed by current neuroscience research, and clearly demonstrates her structured RECON approach. An excellent how-to!”
- Simon D'Orsogna, Therapist & Associate Instructor with the Coherence Psychology Institute, and co-developer of the online training, "Theory and Practice of Coherence Therapy"

I have worked as a psychiatrist and psychotherapist for over 40 years. I have studied NLP and Hypnosis to add tools to how i work with people.
I found this book incredible useful and introduced me to new ways of approaching these techniques and adding many new strategies.
It is well researched and up to date on the latest scientific information. The strategies are well described and well documented with case studies to allow the reader to follow and understand why she suggests certain therapy strategies and the importance of timing of interventions.
I was struck by the clarity of her writing and the abundance of practical and useful information she includes throughout the book to help us become better at what we do.
The book is filled with case examples and many useful insights and practical suggestions for dealing with actual client situations in the office.
I got much more than just 10 strategies from this book !
Courtney Armstrong has created an incredible useful manual for using the new tools that cognitive science and neuroscience is discovering. She takes this scientific information and presents it in a remarkable useful form so that you can understand core discoveries and how they can be used to speed the process of change.
She explains how in some circumstances like when creating “a corrective emotional experience” we can do this even better when we understand how the brain actually creates and processes memory.
I highly recommend it to anyone in any discipline that wants to learn better more effective ways to help people change their emotional states and their ways of thinking and reacting.
