Product Description
Aura Daylight Therapy Lamp

Today, we are living in a light-deprived world and are paying for it with our health. Our body is designed to spend most of our waking hours outdoors, where it benefits from the sun’s rays in the bright sunshine – but today our lifestyles are causing us to fight what Mother Nature intended for us. We’re living in the dark.
The good news is that researchers in light therapy have made great strides in recent years in understanding the impact of light on our health and wellness, and there is an increasing awareness among the general population about the importance of getting enough of the right kind of light: BRIGHT LIGHT.The reality, however, is that it’s hard to institute a significant change in our lifestyle by spending more time outdoors and getting the light we need on a daily basis. So, bringing the vital light indoors in the form of light therapy is the next best solution.

At Aura we developed our product to ensure that our customers will get the best light therapy treatment possible.
Light therapy has been proven effective in 90% of the cases but not without side effects. In several clinical studies conducted with 10,000 lux bright light therapy lamps some of the side effects reported were: Jumpiness/Jitteriness (8.8%), Headache (8.4%), Nausea (15.9%)
We implemented a patented dimmer feature that, when used correctly, negates these side effects.
Subjects were re-evaluated using our BL40 model and they were advised to start with the minimum lux setting and increase the output every two days, so that their body could slowly and effectively adjust to the light therapy treatment. When following this procedure, the users who had previously reported headaches, nausea and even jitteriness reported none or significantly reduced symptoms.

The BL40 light therapy lamp emits a full 10,000 lux at 8”. Research suggest that even exposure to 2,500 lux of bright light, can make a significant difference to those who suffer from winter blues. The Aura Daylight Lamp offers flexibility by allowing the user to easily adjust the lux output based on their preference.
Light therapy has been proven effective in almost 80% of people reporting symptoms related to the winter blues. Although the results may vary, most people feel the effects within a few days. The intended uses of light therapy are expanding daily as we learn more about the amazing benefits of light.

The Aura Daylight Therapy Lamp was designed for use in public spaces. The sleek and modern design fits right in to any home or office setting.
- Dual tilt angle for comfortable positioning
- Wall mountable

Aura Daylight brings sunlight back into your life. Our 10,000 lux UV free light perfectly mimics sunlight and will naturally boost your mood. It will also dramatically increase energy, focus and concentration.

"A definitive double-blind study published in 2016 showed light therapy is superior to Prozac for treatment of non-seasonal depression, which opens vast new opportunities for clinical application.”

I already own the Verilux HappyLight Energy Lamp 5000 for home but needed two for the office. But I didn't feel that they were bright enough though my sleep doctor said a minimum of 5,000 lux should be fine. My husband and I also need separate lamps for our home offices. While he has seasonal affective disorder, I have delayed sleep phased disorder.
Unboxing the Aura, it wasn't what I expected. The main photo shows it at an angle so it looks as long and slim as the Verilux 10,000 lux. In fact, if you look at the second second photo, it is quite squat and wide. This wasn't as aesthetically pleasing as the Verilux but the Aura does look like what might happen if the Apple Store and a Star Wars droid had a baby. It's clean with no hard edges and pristine white with rounded edges. It's going to take a bit of room width-wise and it's almost like it's demanding to be seen as stylish. And it is a bit.
Unlike the Verilux, it very handily comes with a timer that is across the button. Press down to the left of the power button on the minus sign and you'll get three options from 30 minutes and lower. Press down to the right of power button on the equal sign and you'll get three options going up from 40 minutes to an hour. This is VERY handy. I usually watch the time and sometimes forget how long I'm in front of the lamp. If I'm lucky, I'll remember to set a timer on my Apple watch or iPhone.
As promised, the Aura light is very bright and white. The Verilux actually looked a bit more blue if you look at my attached photos. They were both pleasantly soft on the peripheral eye--a good thing since you'll need it 8-10" away from your face at the maximum setting to get that 10,000 lux---but the Aura is the one that's full spectrum that you'll want. It has a round knob on the right side you'll barely notice with which you can adjust the brightness. I saw about three different brightness settings when I rolled the knob round. Meanwhile, the Verilux only really come with two with a button you can push to either side of the power button. It comes with two lenses, the comfort one comes installed but there's an optional high energy lens. Still, the Verilux is only broad spectrum ("natural spectrum") which I've ready isn't as favorable as full spectrum for light therapy.
I think they are both great and I definitely felt my energy levels were boosted using each one. However, the angle that the Aura slants took a little bit more real estate on my desk. Playing around with it and rereading the product description, I realized I could stand it straight up. Standing straight up, it takes up less. It's actually got the thinner profile but the stand protrudes a bit farther back than the Verilux does. The side-by-side comparison is interesting. See photos.
In the end, the Aura wins because it's more innovative (a built-in timer, its own special Star Wars droid-like style, the little knob on the side). But if my toddler son had anything to do with my decision, I'd pick the Verilux because I know they can hold up to a proper thrashing. I'm not sure the Aura would...which is why I suggest it you keep it out of reach of small hands. Both are lightweight and easy to travel with but the Aura has universal voltage and the Verilux does not.
Note: I forgot to mention that both lamps can be mounted on the wall. There is a small hole at the top back of the Aura to allow you to mount it like a picture frame.

By far the best pro is that it fixed my sleeping problems within days! Mood fix is happening too, but at a slower, more gradual rate. But the sleep fix has been dramatic. I was staying up until 2, 3 and 4 in the morning and only getting 2-5 hours of sleep a night, waking up exhausted. Within about 5 days of using the light, I started to naturally feel tired at about 9 or 10 p.m., get 7-8 hours of sleep and now generally wake up before my alarm goes off.
I try to do the light at the same time every day. (6:30 a.m. during the week, 7 a.m. on the weekends). I think that helps.
PRO # 2 - Light-weight and easily portable. I move the light from bedroom to kitchen to bathroom as I get ready in the mornings. I make sure that my first 30 minutes is the prescribed 6-12 inches from the light, but I think the "bonus" time in the other rooms helps a lot too.
PRO # 3: - I like that it's angled. Since the light is usually on a table or counter that's lower than my face, I get more light with the angle.
PRO # 4: - I like that it is somewhat bigger than my last light. (I've had 3.) It seems that the 10,000 lux lights with a very small surface area received the most complaints of headaches and eye-strain, so I purposely looked for something a little bit bigger.
PRO # 5 - Good warranty/ Seems durable so far. - I accidentally dropped it from about 3 feet onto carpet and there don't seem to be any problems with it so far. (I did that with another light and it kept working, but afterward had a bad rattle any time I moved it.). Most therapy lights have no warranty or only 1 year. Like that they stand behind it for 2 years.
CON: The only con I've come up with is that the light can only be on in timer mode (10 minute increments from 10 minutes to 1 hour). And while I really like the timer feature, I don't like that it can't be left in a permanent ON mode. (I would like to leave it in the on mode connected to a timer that would then flip it on at the same time every day. But this is pretty minor.)
[The attached photo is of the Aura Daylight with 10,000 lux on the left, next to Verilux with 6,000 lux on the right. I've had the Verilux for over 3 years (including in Alaska) and it has withstood some serious banging around and still works great. I really like it, just wanted stronger lux. Almost upgraded to the Verilux 10,000, but I liked the bigger size and the angle of the Aura.]
