Kayn made it through testing and now she’s figuring out her new abilities and what it is to be a dragon. Lucky for her she has Lexy as a mentor? Yup! None other than Lexy to show her the ropes and help her control her dragon. Kayn’s ability besides the need to squash creeps is a mystery to the group. They’ve never had anyone with her ability in the group and are perplexed at how she can use it. No guidance there. She learns as she goes.
Each character grows and develops more with every book. And the story in non stop action and intrigue. I laughed hysterically at parts like Kayn’s new found liking for hot sauce on everything she eats and found myself on the edge of my seat during other parts that I won’t mention. I never give a spoiler.
This series never disappoints.
Kayn begins her immortal life in Clan Ankh as the clan’s second Dragon. Zach is now her Handler and they both have issues with the situation. The five survivors of the Testing struggle to accept their new duties as they are thrown into situations far beyond their ability level. There is no longer a line between her twin’s memories and her own. They are now truly one being. Our heroine makes more than a few mistakes while learning to use her Conduit ability. Kayn feeds from Frost’s energy and lights a match within her soul. This causes the need for him she has always felt to overwhelm her every thought. She learns how to manage the Dragon that resides within her with the help of Zach as they fall into their fated roles. Kayn begins to accept the loss of the girl she once was by embracing the Dragon she has become. She finds joy in the pleasures of adulthood as she succumbs to her feelings for Frost. This is a tale about one girl’s evolution as she loses everything in order to become something far greater. There is beauty in letting go.
Review: This is book 3 in the series and since I had not read the first 2 book I was often confused. I felt like I was an outsider at times, trying to put the pieces of a puzzle together while listening to a conversation. I was able to work my way into understanding most of the relationships and situations but I highly recommend that you read the first 2 books so it is easier to follow along. I enjoyed the story and the writing style. The author gives us drama, danger, adventure and humor throughout the book. The characters are well written and full of personality. It was fun to go through this part of their adventure with them and I will be reading this series (from the beginning) soon.
4 of 5 stars
This volume of the series also gives us a bit of a steamy scene between Kayn and Frost, as scene that would put traditional romance novels to shame! As she builds the general tension between characters and action, she also builds the sexual tension between the two. While the characters are already well develop throughout the series thus far, Kim finds ways to develop them even more and adds new depth and meaning to them in each installment. I don't think I have read a series that had such complex and multi-layered characters. I cannot wait for more from Kim, I am excited to see what she has in store for Clan Ankh, and wonder if maybe there are other versions of the story in the works. How great would it be if we could have a series that focuses on Kevin, or even Clan Trinity? hint hint Kim!
Seriously, if you haven't read Sweet Sleep yet, do it. Begin the journey with the Children of Ankh, I promise you will not be disappointed. The series just keeps getting better. This would be a series I could definitely see as a movie franchise
