Kieran Hebden is UK Dance act Four Tet, and "There Is Love in You" is his 5th album. His style is Jazz/Folk-speckled theatrical electronica, and apart from a few repetitive vocal loops (on opening pair of the sublime "Angel Echoes" -with what seems to be album title warbled repeatedly- and the skittery nine minute opus "Love Cry"), it is an album of instrumentals.

The aptly titled "Circling" has a cyclic feel that leaves one almost giddy, "Pablo's Heart" is a brief interlude, while the choppy "Sing" throws in some disembodied-sounding harmonies. "This Unfolds" sets sparkly effects to a funereal pace, while the haunting "Reversing" is reverb-laden.

"Plastic People" is more upbeat with twinkling pianos, as is the truly beautiful "She Just Likes To Fight" (the latter my favourite).

Rich in detail, this is a album that just grows and grows till it engulfs you.

This is the first album I bought from Four Tet and the only one I love completely. The sounds are so ethereal and introspective that I often find myself listening to them while I walk alone. Each song seems to transform some way through which makes his songs somewhat of a journey to listen to. The songs are so delicate an humanlike for an electronic album. There is almost a childlike nature in the feeling I get listening to the album because it is so charming. I play Four Tet along with Shigeto, Andrew Bayer, and Daniel Avery when I wan to zone out and be contemplative.

Beautiful album that gets better with age. The vinyl is a heavyweight 180 gram which is a work of art. I finally decided to grab it because this particular Four Tet album isn't available on Spotify to stream, but its one I NEED for my upcoming trip to Europe. Getting a free Auto Rip version of this is a fantastic way to get me to purchase the vinyl!

Four Tet has been putting together some unusual and haunting melodies for some time, but willing to experiment with new sounds and work past the thumping bass notes that make much of this genre repetitive and derivative. This works great as a casual listen or in the office; wouldn't listen during a work out or play time.

THERE IS LOVE IN YOU almost sounds like it should be a romantic album, but with Four Tet at the helm, it turns out to be much, much more. The quiet beat that starts off "Angel Echoes" quickly gives way to the main theme, a reprocessing of what sounds like Sarah McLachlan vocals. "Love Cry" begins on a more minimal note, with just the percussion and some lingering electronics until the vocals appear halfway through. "Circling" makes the vocals just a hum for the swirl of electronics to dance around, while the delicate funk of "Sing" will make you actually want to dance. Male vocals are the addition to "This Unfolds," though not much more than a sweet humming to accompany the squat, joyous gurgling underneath, while "Plastic People" chimes a little darker. But as the album comes to an end with the calming clatter and guitar of "She Just Likes To Fight," it becomes clear where the love really is.

Kieran "Four Tet" Hebden has released a giant stack of records over the last 10 years. EPs, singles, remix records, proper Four Tet albums, limited edition 12" projects, jazz fusion collaborations with Steve Reid, DJ records and more. His best work, 2003's Rounds, is rightfully considered to be one of the essential electronic albums ever recorded. All that said, Hebden has only released two full-blown Four Tet records since the star-turning Rounds: 2005's Everything Ecstatic (similar to Rounds, though not nearly as deep or affecting); and the just released There Is Love in You, the fifth proper release under the Four Tet name.

Hebden's 2008 EP, the much anticipated Ringer, signaled a change in direction for the Four Tet moniker. Where he had once utilized very organic, cut-and-paste sounding production style similar to the work of DJ Shadow and other hip-hop and trip-hop inspired producers, Hebden here began incorporation quite a bit of live instrumentation, focused mostly on keyboards that brought to mind 80s-era film scores. Cheesy, that's the word. So, no, the excitement for There Is Love in You was not exactly notable; Ringer wasn't a bad record, per se, but it offered little of the repeat value of Rounds, Everything Ecstatic or even the Steve Reid records.

There Is Love in You isn't the letdown Ringer was but it's also not the major triumph Rounds was. Does Hebden put on a clinic as far as electronic production goes? Absolutely. But that doesn't necessarily mean that he's released a triumphant record. In fact, Love feels a bit too mulled over at all times. Unnatural, even. Once described by critics as the perfect mix of organic and programmed, Hebden's work has lost its organic touch, in doing so, losing much of its repeat value.

I love this album - Four Tet's music is progressive, involving, and uplifting. The dance beats, however, could have been emphasized: What dance music there is pulls and energizes in a way that makes the rest of the album a tad droll. That is not to say those individual tracks are lacking in quality; they are great pieces as well. It's just that the album does not carry its momentum flawlessly and is a little confused.
