Comment: This book has already been loved by someone else. It MIGHT have some wear and tear on the edges, have some markings in it, or be an ex-library book. Over-all it's still a good book at a great price! (if it is supposed to contain a CD or access code, that may be missing)

I love singing stories to my elementary students in music class. Over time, the students learn the tunes as well and sing with me. They enjoy visuals which is why the thought of musical "story time" is usually a success for me. I own a LOT of these story books, for each season and holiday. The students become incredibly excited when they see we are going to "read-sing" an "There Was An Old Lady..." book!

. . . .these horrible illustrations, but who I am to question the brilliance of this book. It's kid tested (loves!) and Montessori school recommended. This story, the Halloween edition, is one in a series of "Lady that Swallows Something" books. Drawings and one-note wonder storyline aside, these books teach sequencing and repetition through one woman's insatiable and absurdist appetite. Not exactly a piece of masterful writing, but great for a quick laugh.

This is a funny and easy-to-read picture book with hilarious illustrations, perfect for the 3-6 year-old in your life. My son and I read this together at least 10 times, and he still remembers it fondly. The one to two sentences per page read with an easy cadence that makes the book flow, very like the original Old Lady story. Great Halloween reading!

My students (ages 3 - 6 with moderate to severe special needs) LOVE these books. I make sure to read (sing) the original version (There was an old lady who swallowed a spider...) several times throughout the year so it stays fresh. I read these theme versions when we are studying something close to it (read this one when we were studying Bats for science). Yes, I DO sing them and encourage participation! Great FUN!!! Collect them all!

Great book. I recommend all the books in this story line of Old Lady. This book is cute, great illustrations, and is fun to read to a child or have them read it to you. Great confidence builder for young readers.

Unlike the last time I read a book from this series, this one wasn't so bad. It was mediocre and the plot followed basically the same format as the others of the song although replacing all the items with more of a Halloween-type theme instead although in this case the cat wasn't black but one of your normal tiger tabby.

The words are easy-to-read while still following the rhyming format so young readers will enjoy the read, especially if adults may end up helping them along. After probably the second or third read they may have it memorized or at least the parts where they can act out such as the howling (why she howls after swallowing an owl I don't know why).

The illustrations are rather decent although not something special to write home about. All in all it was rather decent while may be better received by adults who are around children more or for that matter children themselves.
