Fun, Entertaining Children's book!

I purchased this book as my husband and I are currently building our children's book collection.
This was one of the first books I put on my list.
I remember being mesmerized by it as a child and I loved the ending. The illustrations are crazy and especially fun for kids. There's a little bit of suspense in which each character will swallow next as the book goes on and it makes for many hilarious reactions when being read to kids - it would be especially fun to see this book read to a large group of kids... maybe at a library reading or something.
I can see my family wanting to read this book again and again, as I did when I was young. I am so glad it was so easy to find and purchase this book through amazon. I was able to cross a book on my list to purchase, at an inexpensive price, and that made me very happy.

Fantastically silly book!

So I was in Korea of all places, at a used book store, and I stumbled across a copy of this book. It was a bit tattered so I left it, but not before reading the whole thing. I was instantly brought back to my childhood. I remember my dad reading me and my sister a different version of this same silly story. I knew I needed to get it for my son.

When I got home, I ordered it and to put it simply - it's awesome! This is so much better than what I had when I was a kid. I love all the silly comments on each page that actually rhyme and go with the story. My son likes the pictures and love me reading it to him. I wouldn't say it's his favorite book, he's hooked on "Go Dog Go" at the moment, but this is definitely in his top five. I'd recommend it to anyone with small kids!

I have often used this book when teaching relative clauses to foreign children. It is delightful, though there are some extraneous elements that cannot be appreciated by children just beginning to learn English--such as a page full of pictures of cheeses and their names, and funny "aside" comments about the story. I just skip those, unless the kids express special interest in them. As the story progresses, the old lady has bigger and bigger cutouts in her stomach to show the creatures accumulating in there, and the whole book is very entertaining and funny.

Caution for parents who for some reason do not want any references to death in a young child's book: The refrain, "I guess she'll die" is repeated over and over, though the whole story deals with absurd situations and it is obvious that "real death" is not being spoken of.

Great condition, funny and cute story!

I love this book!
I bought it because this was one of my favorite childhood books, and I cannot find the one I had. I want my kids to get the same enjoyment out of it one day, that I always did. I have looked off and on for years, and finally found this edition on here. There are other later editions, but this one is my favorite. Very pleased with the condition of the used book as well. It is basically new.
It is a cute story that tells of this old lady swallowing all of these animals, each time the animal gets larger. It rhymes and it funny. There is also a lot of other "Old Lady who swallows..." books that I did not know about until searching for this one on here. Future buys perhaps!
I still love this catchy story.

one of my fave books. this is the 5th time i have bought it in my life. my gramps read it to me as a kid. so i had to give it to my kid, as its a fave of mine. I went to buy it this time & found some beannies that go with it. Now it is like a story/play for me & my 2 kids. If u r looking for a way to bond, this is a good one. As my daughter gets older, i am feeling a bit lonely, she is girly & i was never around girls growing up. this has started a whole new way for us to bond, now we r discovering other story puppets & such. LOVE THIS BOOK even more now!!!!--- we do voices and make animal sounds and toss beannies at each other, this is the best thing i have ever owned.

My favorite book

I loved this book as a child and it is still one of my favorites as a grown up. Bought this for a baby gift so it can be read to the baby and when they are able to read, it can be read back to you. Even tho the child can't read, the pictures are enough for him/her to tell the story back to you. Very nice quality book, but it should be considering it was a $10 book and isn't a very long story.

One of the cutest books I've seen in a long time! I remembered this song from when I was a child, but we never had a book this cool to go along with it. My 4 year old son also loved it! There is a cut out on each page showing the items in the old lady's stomach and she grows each day she eats another animal/insect. The last animal she eats causes a shocking result and the moral of the entire story is hilarious! I highly recommend this book to all young children and adults alike! The illustrations are creative and humorous and the entire story is entertaining.
