That being said, this is still one of my favorites of Marcia Muller's early books. It's obvious that the book is from a time when the technology we've all come to rely on has not been perfected yet. so plugged in all the time. She still has to look for a pay phone and still types reports on a Selectric typewriter. But the content still captures the essence of a changing neighborhood and the culture clash as refugees from a war try to integrate into society.
This is also the book where we start to get more details about the folks who work at the All Souls Co-op and we start to see more facets of her life. I will definitely keep reading my way through the series, but I do hope eventually somebody fixes the typos and offers those of us who got the wonky editions a free upgrade!
But an enormous shame on the editors who allowed misspellings, typos, poor grammar to the point that the reader has to go back and retread a sentence to make sense of it. It became a game (somewhat more interesting than the story) to find the next mistake.
Francisco). Great story with real-life characters. This mystery has a twist ending --- hey, I didn't see
it coming. Muller always delivers a great story.
