Our founders' mission was simple: create a better way to sleep outside; because when you rest better, you play better. Their ingenuity and vision back in 1972 led to the creation of the first self-inflating sleeping pad.
Today, we’re still working towards the same mission to craft the best sleeping pads and bags on the market. We’re not just giving explorers a better way to camp, we’re giving them better adventures tomorrow.

The weight difference is only 2oz, but the real difference in size is about 1.5 inches wider and longer. The thickness is just about the same, but like others have mentioned, the small denim color is denser, giving it a slightly firmer feel. I'm not sure if the other colors in small are firmer, or just the denim. I really like both, but will probably use the small more often. I'll keep both, since they're cheap enough to have a backup or loaner.
Note, I did not wash these, as others have said! I just fluffed them for about 30 seconds.
As a couple of other reviewers have mentioned, the stitching in a couple places looks a bit sketchy (last picture), so I'll probably refrain from machine washing them unless it's a last ditch type of situation. Still, I believe they'll hold up if you're gentle with them. Also, I had to untie and re-tie the compression cord, because it was too tight to allow for easy rolling, and was leading to some fabric stretching and stress on the stitching. It seems much easier to roll and compress now.
While I may understand some 3-star reviews if it was used for a napping child, or someone liked the color, but I do not get any review over 3 stars. It's is not comfortable enough for anything so high. Must be fake.
I got large and it rolled up small enough to stick in knapsack, but I felt it was too flat, under stuffed (which I guess has to be done to be able to roll it up) and saggy and offered zero support, so more of a good idea that wasn't well executed. I only needed once since my June 2018 purchase and didn't use because it wasn't comfortable, so seemed like wasteful impulse buy. Nothing like you see in product pictures. Also, based on how I feel about it, definitely overpriced. Better to lug a real pillow that you can pick up for $5. at some discount home store. Heck, a rolled up sweatshirt would offer more support. Also, the 'wash and dry to fluff up' instructions are B.S.

It weighs 200g. This is heavy for ultralightweight backpackers (myself included), but if it gave a good night's sleep then it would be worth it. Also it compresses into a roll (it rolls into itself and is retained by cinching up a drawstring), but the roll is about 12" long and the same diameter as a sports water bottle. It takes up a fair bit of room in the pack.
Contrast this with the Sea-to-Summit air pillow that I was using before - weighs 25g and stuffs into a little sack about the size of an egg - but it isn't as comfortable as the Thermarest pillow. No matter how much or little you inflate it, it hurts your ear when side-sleeping. Roll over, sure, but then the other ear hurts after a while - and so on, all night long.
Next up - I'm going to look at the EXPED REM pillow, which is a combination of an inner core inflatable pouch and an outer compression layer, with a soft outer against the skin. The inner pouch can be inflated to suit the size you want. Overall it is about 190g for the medium and it is about the same size as the Thermarest, but might be a bit more comfy due to the ability to adjust the thickness to suit your preferred sleeping position. It compresses to about the same size as the Thermarest. About £30.
Maybe 2x Thermarest pillows would be the solution, but if that's the case, you might as well take the pillow from your bed at home!
I have arthritis and sleep apnea and european pillows in hotels are either bolster type or small, and always too " flat".
I wanted something a normal(ish) size, that had some support, and would not take up too much space in luggage.
Taking a pillow away, or folding hotel pillows into a spare case is just too much trouble: but not sleeping well whilst trying to enjoy a holiday is not much better.
This is a good make and the reviews were, for the most part positive, so I gave it a go.
"Foam expands Big and packs small": neither are accurate.
This does not fold much smaller than rolling a standard pillow into itself: which is how this work - it rolls into the flap.
I unrolled and left it a couple of hours and "plumped it up", plumped again a few hours later. plumped again the next morning.
No plumper, and definitely nothing like the thickness of the pictures: not even as thick as a standard blow up travel pillow.
It stays very flat, and there is not enough filling ( lots of small pieces of foam inside) to exand into anything solid - you can feel the gaps throughout, almost as if it has only been half filled.
A few reviewers suggested washing it before first use to plump it up, but I did not want to do that and negate the possibility of return.
On the plus side, it arrive quickly, in proportionate packaging, it is almost the size of a regular pillow, and the cover is good quality and has a nice feel: but I did not buy it for looks !
Sent straight back.
It is remarkably comfortable and for that reason I’ve given it a 4 star rating. To get a better rating, I think the beancounters at Thermarest could have been persuaded to add a few more bits of foam to give it a more luxurious feeling, especially since it’s made from “.....excess foam from the mattress factory”. So Thermarest, do yourselves a favour and stop penny pitching and fill it properly!
