You can also reverse the air flow! By switching the batteries around the fan blows in the opposite direction. This is handy to help suck the air out so it rolls up easier, not that rolling and squeezing it over and over again won't do that. Trick is the sliding cap has a ridge of plastic that blocks the battery terminal so you need some aluminum tape wrapped around the metal lead in the case cover. Picture shows it.
Originally I bought this thinking after a good day of hiking it would be nice to just let it run while I ate dinner and the pad would be all filled up. The bad part though is it makes a relatively loud fan noise and there is also a high pitch that went on during the entire run. If you are at a camp with other people they will hate you. Who wants to rest at a camp site only to hear somebody's whiny motor running for a half hour? I guess if you aren't considerate of other people's feelings, and probably litter as well, it would be OK.
For the price it is kind of crazy but I like gadgets so I gave it a try. You're MUCH better off getting the Therm-a-Rest AirTap Pump Kit (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B004NBF9Z8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and a 13L dry bag to make your own pump sack. It works great, saves you ounces, and you can put your sleeping bag and other must-keep-dry items inside during the day.
well worth the cost.
