I waited to see what their next generation would bring, and for a while didn't stay tuned in to what they were doing until I saw an ad for this model, they newly improved pro version, which also comes in a pro lite model.
WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT
I asked Flir and their answer was very simplistic. They said the PRO has “a more powerful thermal sensor combined with advanced image processing, VividIR for crisper and clearer thermal images, more camera features including multiple spot meters, customizable areas of interest, IR scale and scene dynamic rage of up to 400˚C (752˚F)”. I’ve expanded on their answer with the information below.
There are three standout features, among others, that compelled me to want this upgrade. Higher resolution is one, it much better compliments the capabilities of my iPhone Xs Max now. And enhanced circuitry to help me see the object I am imaging superimposed with the thermal imagery of it. And third, this model is much more rugged, that was always a disappointment of my older model how delicate it was.
COMPARED TO THE FLIR ONE
- Thermal Resolution: ONE = 80 x 60 pixels PRO = 160 x 120 pixels
- Object Temperature Range: ONE = -20 °C to 120 °C (-4 °F to 248 °F) PRO = -20°C to 400°C (-4°F to 752°F)
- Thermal Sensitivity (Lower mK = higher sensitivity and better image) ONE = 150 Mk PRO = 70 mK
- VividIR Image Enhancement: ONE = No PRO = Yes
- Image Presentation: ONE = MSX only PRO = Infrared, visual, MSX, gallery
- Battery Life - 1 hour for both models
The app automatically recognizes when the FLIR ONE Pro is attached instead of the more basic model and then offers a host of pro-capable tools including radiometry, or the ability to take accurate temperature measurements, and even multiple temperature spots for situations where pinpointing temperature differences in a scene is critical. After taking an image or video, the FLIR ONE Pro then allows users to analyze image and send reports to their clients at the touch of a button to streamline communications and save time on the job site.
YES OR NO
I’m assuming you know what this tool is and how to use it. If not, may I suggest that reviews (including mine) are not the best place to learn. The manufacturer has a wealth of information including videos and case studies available and they are in a far better position to teach you than reading someone’s opinion. I wasn’t wowed by the side-by-side difference between the basic model and this, the latest PRO model. Maybe that’s because I don’t have an everyday need for some of it’s more advanced capabilities, but that doesn’t mean I’m not glad they’re there. I’ve bought way too many tools in the past that lacked features I thought I would never use and was disappointed when the time came that I needed it just once. The standout feature that everyone can see and appreciate is how much better the image from the visual camera is so you can see the thermal image superimposed over it better. Whether you are using this for your own measurements or to show a client, to me this is a very important feature and is worth at least part of the difference in price. I also like that the PRO is substantially more rugged, these things aren’t cheap and the basic model feels very delicate in comparison. Maybe the biggest difference is that the PRO model automatically switches the app into high gear with a lot of features and options that the basic model(s) lock out. Like I said, you may not use them every day but they are there for a reason and (in my opinion) that helps make up the rest of the cost differential. So, yes, I suggest paying the extra hundred bucks if you’re going to do it at all, you probably won’t look back.
The Pro version of the camera covers a wider temperature range vs. the consumer version and has a more detailed infrared heat sensor. As you can see in the attached video the Pro camera will deliver a much better image vs. the consumer version of the camera.
My biggest gripe with these devices is the short battery life. It will operate for about 45 minutes to an hour before it needs to be recharged. The plus side to this is that it's not using your phone's battery to operate. But I do think short battery life on a tool like this is going to be a point of frustration.
I do like that the connector accommodates large cases thanks to a dial control on the top of the unit. It's largely plug and play and the app is simple enough to get up and running very quickly.
More details are in the attached video.

HOWEVER they have a known battery fault. Went to use it after a few weeks of no use and it was dead and would not charge. Flir support have had my camera back over 2 months now and have now stopped replying to my emails.
I know there is a known battery issue as I asked what reassurance there was it would not happen again, and was told there has been an upgrade to prevent this.
2 months to be without this with its huge cost is a joke!
Would hesitate to ever buy a Flir product again. No UK support.
Fazit: Akku Laufzeit unbrauchbar, Handling schlecht, Bilder O.K.
