Price paid: $17.66 ($12.99 + $4.67 for shipping) from Directron.com on April 7, 2011.

I bought this fan (TY-140) to keep two hard drives cool on my desktop computer. I chose this model after reading many reviews, seeing some comparison videos and some comparison charts on different models of different sizes. In all reviews, this fan had the best or very close to the best ratios involving cooling capacity, noise and airflow. I have had it working at its maximum speed when the computer is on for just over a year. It has caused a drop in temperature that ranges between 10 and 14 degrees Celsius as compared to not having a fan, without making my computer much noisier than it was before installing this fan.

There is no such thing as a noiseless fan. But, there are major differences in the ratio of noise to air flow among different models and sizes, and there are also major differences in how comfortable or uncomfortable the noise of different models feel. With this fan, I am satisfied with the noise level and how the noise feels to my hearing.

I read in a forum that this fan is noisier than others if you put something behind it. This seems to be true. I moved it once just a little from its original position and with a very low level of obstruction in the rear of the fan, I could easily tell that it was making more noise than usual.

Beware that the cord is somewhat short when compared to equivalent models. You can check the length and the other information that I have given here by making an online search on this model.

Update on 2016-03-08: This fan keeps running as well as it did when it was new.

Combined with a GA-Z87-WIFI logic board, it would not run on the case fan header connector without setting the BIOS to a higher multiplier for the case fan. When it was at a 500rpm idle, it had an audible vibration that would go away when the center of the fan was pressed. I don't think it likes the PWM signal from Gigabyte case fan headers.

When idled up (computer under load) it was very quiet.

I doubled up on this fan for my cpu heatsink and it's incredibly quiet. The unique 120mm screw holes makes it ideal when you want to replace an aftermarket 120mm heatsink fan for some added cooling/noise reduction. Be warned though that the size makes it a bit tricky with some motherboards and cases. The case clearance is obvious, but I forgot about the extra room needed due to the proximity of my ram stick to the heatsink.

Had this set up as a PWM fan, but the RPM was so low that the cheezy BIOS on the motherboard that I was working on set off fan alarms, with no way to lower the minimum RPM for the alarm. So I turned off the PWM function and allowed the fan to spin at maximum speed (about 1250). Even at that speed, it's barely audible. Wish the minimum speed were a little higher, but the fan is so quiet that full speed just isn't a problem. By all means, a contender for the Noctua fans.
