Top Customer Reviews
I used this fan to add push-pull on my Corsair H110 radiator. I needed it thin because the radiator is mounted in the top compartment of my Cooler Master HAF-XM. The push fans are full-width and already mounted inside the case (Akasa Viper 140s). And the Luna fits - barely - uses pretty much the exact amount of available space under the top cover. The small metal tabs holding the grille pieces on the top cover squeeze up against the fan housing, but the cover is able to fully secure to the case. I just don't have the right screws to secure the fans to the topside of the radiator, so its just held in by pressure right now.
The push-pull is moving noticeably more air than the push-only setup.
I could have bought two 120mm fans that are 25mm thick but I wasn't sure if they would clear the VRM heatsink on some motherboards. I also could have used two slim 120mm fans instead but I wanted to go all out and get as large of fans I could that would fit. That's where these Thermaltake Luna 140mm Slim fans come in.
Before I bought these fans, I checked to see if 140mm fans would fit at the top of my case because it only has mounts for 120mm fans. They do fit but I had to remove the stock 120mm fan that came with the case and replace it with a Thermaltake Luna 120mm Slim fan because of clearance issues. That's fine, I was going to do that anyway.
Air & Sound:
These fans move quite a bit of air, more than my BitFenix Spectre Pro fans, but they are slightly noisier. They do run at a higher RPM and they do have a different bearing type than my Spectre Pros, so the noise difference is to be expected. Even though they are a little louder than my other fans they are still pretty quiet.
The fans do look nice but I do have a few gripes about them.
The cord is sleeved and it has a waxy feel to it which I don't like. They should have used all black wires rather than sleeving the red, yellow and black wires.
The rubber anti-vibration pads on them aren't as bright a red as I expected and neither are the LEDs. The LEDs do look brighter when plugged into a fan header on the motherboard rather than using the MOLEX adapter. I'm not sure why that is though.
Aside from those issues the red and black color scheme matches my case well.
Installation was pretty easy. I didn't feel like I was going to crack or break the frame thanks to the rubberized anti-vibration corners. The downside to that, when screwing the fan in it doesn't feel like it's secured but it actually is. I tried yanking on the fan and it wouldn't budge but it feels like the screws are stripped when installing the fan. It's awkward but this is normal.
I really like these fans. The pros far outweigh the cons. My only other option was to not have fans at the top of my case and I think I'd rather have something there even if it's mediocre which these fans are by no means mediocre. I'm sure there are other slim 140mm fans available but I like the way these look and they are the same brand as my case so that's a plus.
These fans are whisper quiet, have soft slot screw mountings, and come with a 4pin power to 3pin fan extender cable, black installation screws. Once again, though, do not look to these fans for high volume air flow, it is not what they are for.
Note: I installed mine leaving a little slack; I did not tighten them all the way to the case. If the case is a little off, that can warp the fan housing and cause bearing issues. Advise careful observation when installing to see if there is warping, then if there is don't crank them all the way down.
One star off only cuz the leds are pretty dim...
Having the slim option is fantastic. I had a custom install of an h90 behind a door and this fan allowed for some awesome glow behind the door and another -5 degrees with the push pull configuration. Overall way to go! Would definitely look at these again.
