Unique Metallic Structure with Superb Heat Dissipation
Unlike traditional CPU coolers, the Engine 27 features a metallic structure and copper base that provides more fortified and efficient thermal paths for CPU. The metallic fan is designed to directly pull heat from CPU. Especially, the metallic fan base is engineered with small radial gaps that allow heat to be transferred rapidly to the rotating metallic fan. Hence, when the metallic fan blades generate cooling airflow, heat will also be transferred to the flowing air by both rotating fan and stationary fan base at the same time.
Forty Fan Blade Design for Better Cooling Performance

* 25mm in height from base to top of the heat sink (shorter than 27mm).
* It also uses air dynamic bearings, meaning there are no bearings to wear down over time.
* More effective cooler than other sub 30mm coolers around.
* Relatively quiet compared to similarly sized coolers.
* Expensive at $50.
* Only cools up to around 70-watts.
* Might not fit in some motherboards.
* Intel only.
Overall, it's the best cooler for super compact builds. I would have preferred a version that can cool up to a Haswell Core i5 (around 84-watts) for the entry level unit. 70-watts is kind of an arbitrary number because most processors are either 50, 65, 85, or 100 watts.
It's a bit noisier than the stock Intel cooler and the fan is not easily replaced (there are little pressed on clips on the long heatsink mounting screws that also hold the fan in place). I do wonder how long the fan will last as fan life is often a problem on non-Intel heatsinks. Despite manufacture claims, many are sourced from low-end Chinese suppliers with poor quality control, marginal bearings, etc. Given this whole cooler costs less than some quality fans alone, you have to wonder.
Summary: This is a marginal upgrade cooling-wise over the stock Intel quad core i7 Haswell cooler. You trade a bit more noise and unknown fan life for slightly lower temps. It would be a more significant upgrade over the stock Intel 55 watt cooler that comes on most of their dual core Haswells.
I can overclock the CPU to 4.2 GHz and the temperature of the CPU stays in 40-50 C.
I bought this heat-sink because my old one keeps on causing the thermos shutdown of the FX 8320 after I upgrade it from the AMD 980. This replacement heat-sink definitely solve that problem.
The only problem I had was the installation, the heat-sink really requires you to force it to mount on the CPU bracket, there is no other way around it.
During normal office work and light computing (browse, you tube...), the temperature stays around 18 -20 C, this s really amazing. I would give it a five stars if the installation is not so difficult. Of course, if you want to take the board out of the case, it is a different story, I am installing this heat-sink with everything is in the case, in other words, in place upgrade, this is more difficult.
I also want to add that if you think of changing the CPU after the heatsink is in place, that is very painful also, the design of the mounting of the heatsink obviously is not very user friendly.

as someone said, the two metal arms that grab onto the motherboard were well over a centimeter or two too far away, I put it down on there and there was no way without hulk smashing the board was that cooler going to stick to the cpu.
I was extremely frustrated at this point and wouldn't succumb to this stupidity, so I took 2 flat head pliers and made slow incremental bends to the bottom arms until they were just barely able to lock to the motherboard, it took a couple tries but I finally got that to work. After dealing with the CPU cooler surgery, the board did kick on just fine and the fan seemed to be doing alright, I was getting steady 40* C for my ryzen 7 1700x
I did not see nor try this with an intel cpu, YMMV, but the am4 compatibility is a joke unless you want to use 2 flat head pliers like me to make that thing fit
It took 10-15 degrees C off my CPU temps as opposed to the stock cooler. The CPU is a G3258, so cooling is easy. That said, overclocking is actually worse now than before. I had to take it from 3.8Ghz to stock speed to regain stability. I suppose it's possible I may have damaged it during install, but that would most likely stop it from booting at all so I'm not sure what's up there.
Either way the cooler is fine and beats stock easily.
Good for smaller builds.
Installation was a bit hairy since you have to hold the fan in place on top of the CPU and push the spring loaded screws down to hook them into the base while not sliding thermal paste all over.
