WARNING - 3 PIN FAN NOT FOR A LGA 1151

The product line says, "Thermaltake Gravity i2 95W Intel LGA 1156/1155/1150/1151 92mm CPU Cooler CLP0556-D" which clearly means it is compatible with an Intel I7-6700T CPU which is built on an LGA1151.

However this is a 3 PIN FAN and the LGA 1151 requires a 4 Pin Fan.

Photo 1 shows the OEM CPU FAN and its 4 Pin Plug. FYI, I am getting the HP 90B Error Code from the BIOS.
Photo 2 shows the I7-6700T CPU cleaned and ready for new Thermal Compound
Photo 3 shows the box for this product as supplied and you will note that it is clearly marked 3 Pin

Please do not waste your time or money unless you are sure you need the 3 PIN unit. You cannot rely on the information this seller posts. It is clearly inaccurate and unreliable.

The CPU fan in my computer started growling a few days ago, a sure sign it was on its last legs. The program "Speccy", (great app for looking under the hood of your computer), informed my my average CPU temp was ~ 60 degrees celsius. I learned several things in my quest to replace my cpu fan. 1st, the motherboard has a number fairly prominently displayed. That number is used to find the correct cpu fan, they are apparently not interchangeable. There are both 3 and 4 pin fan plugs. Check which you have before purchasing a new fan. The way the fan was attached to the motherboard was not readily apparent to this non-geek. I watched a youtube video that indicated push-pins. The new fan used screws. It was hard for me to see exactly how the old fan attached. I reached into the tiny space around the head of what appeared to be the fastener. Unlike the video I watched, these were push-pins, but they did not have a tab sticking up, they were flat. My fingers quickly discovered that they were in fact push-pins and pulled up easily. The new fan uses screws instead of pushpins. Again, to this non-savey, non-geek, it was not readily apparent that the mounting plate provided with the fan had to go on the backside of the motherboard. Fortunately, both sides of my tower case come off and the motherboards backside was readily accessible. Once I discovered that, the installation went quickly and smoothly. The fan comes with heat paste pre-installed. There is no need to lift the bracket that holds the cpu in place. I did, while trying to figure out how the new fan attached, with the cpu clamp unfastened, I inadvertently removed the cpu. My stress level instantly went sky-high. There was two tiny indentations, barely discernible, that insures proper orientation. Whew!! Anyway, the new fan installed easily once I made all of these discoveries. I sweated a little when I turned the computer on... did I get the cpu re-installed correctly? The computer booted up flawlessly. Speccy now informed me that my cpu temp had gone from averaging around 58 - 65 degrees celsius (with little load), down to 32 - 42 degrees celsius. I am very pleased. I took on this daunting project because I live in a very rural community, Ocean Shores, Wa. The nearest city, Aberdeen is 35 minutes away and Olympia (the big city) is an hour plus. Good computer techs are great. Sadly, it is very hard to find one who is both competent and affordable. Changing the cpu fan was daunting, but easily do-able by anyone with moderate mechanical skills. Hope this review helps another non-techie.

Better than stock Intel cooler.

This is a better cooler when compared to the stock intel one. It is taller than the stock cooler and cools much better. However I tested this with 2 other coolers and here are my results when tested on a i7-8700:

When compared to other cooling options it does not shine that much. For a person who wants something better than Intels aluminum chunk, this cooler is a good option. However when compared to other cooling options this one is not great. I tested this with a Hyper 212 and a 120 mm AiO, this cooler made my computer MUCH louder. My PC was annoyingly loud when playing games like GTA 5. Even at idle this cooler ran at high RPM. Although my PC roared with this cooler, it kept my CPU cool. I feel the only good reason to get this cooler is to put it in a case that has space issues. However if your PC can fit a better cooler I'd recommend to do that instead of getting this.

My stock cooler on my 2nd gen I5 with the plastic push pins was poor. My room that has my pc is about 75f most of the time and my cpu was running 55c idle and nearly 70 under load. I put on this thermaltake cooler and in the same environment I am at 35c idle and 45c under load. It is just as quiet as stock cooler, much more robust and easy to install. It is larger than the stock cooler and sits close to my ram, but is not interfering with it. An instant improvement for 15$ to prolong my pc!

Update July 2017: I used this same cooler on a I7 6700(non k) and have been running it for about a year. No issues at all.

Adquirí un procesador intel i5 de ultima generación 10400 por lo que tenía mis dudas si podría funcionar debido a que está hecho para generaciones anteriores. Para mi sorpresa después de la instalación todo fue miel sobre hojuelas, al revisar el producto noté que es un disipador fabricado con mucha calidad de materiales, las aspas son silenciosas y el cuerpo de auténtico aluminio, además estéticamente se ve muy bonito pese a no tener RGB. Lo formidable es que mantiene mi procesador i5 10400 por debajo de 70 grados inclusive jugando Warzone y haciendo stream al mismo tiempo, así que dejas de temer del thermal throttling o los apagones de cpu por altas temperaturas. No lo recomendaría para procesadores i7 o i9 de última generación porque generan mayor calor por lo que buscaría un disipador más grande, pero para un i5 es oro molido. Por último encaja perfecto en motherboards pequeñas sin ocupar demasiado espacio dejando libres todos los slot de memoria ram, al contrario que sucede con disipadores más grandes que llegan a bloquear las ultimas dos bahías para RAM.

La verdad a la vez fue una sorpresa y a la vez no el excelente desempeño de ese ventilador Thermalek, digo esto por que es el segundo disipador que he comprado de esta marca y la verdad NUNCA decepcionan. Vengo de probar un Disipador Cool Master pero me salió horrendo, así que lo devolví y compre este. Lo uso para enfriar un Core i7 4790 que tiende a calentarse de mas con el disipador stock de fabrica, esta pequeña maravilla de Thermaltek me ayudo a bajar alrededor de 20 grados la temperatura de mi procesador y además es muy silencioso comparado sobre todo con el de stock de intel. No gasten de mas!! Este sencillo pero bien diseñado ventilador es todo lo que se requiere para la mayoría de las maquinas. Saludos!!!

Tengo este disipador desde hace unas semanas montado en un i7-2600, las temperaturas comparadas con el de stock realmente no han mejorado mucho, siguen siendo las mismas cuando esta en reposo pero cuando le meto un poco de estres tarda mas en llegar a su punto mas caliente.

Aqui el detalle por el que le doy las 5 estrellas es por la cuestion del sonido, el disipador de stock hacia mucho ruido cuando tenia una alta carga de trabajo y este thermaltake no hace absolutamente nada de ruido manteniendo la misma eficiencia, un punto a considerar si quieres tu setup lo mas silencioso posible, ademas de el costo (Que realmente es muy bueno) y ni hablar de los materiales y acabado, es elegante, bueno y eficiente, no le hace falta el rgb para verse bien. El unico pero que le puedes poner es que no es PWM, pero con los resultados que te da, no te importara mucho.

Si tu procesador tiene un TDP menor a 95w, es una opcion que debes considerar, creo yo que es el mejor costo-beneficio.

Lo instale para enfriar un procesador intel core i7 de segunda generación en una caja micro ATx muy pequeña, con el de serie el procesador levantaba mas de 90° jugando solamente el mendigo fortnite, cuando instale este cooler la historia fue muy diferente, pues ahora hasta pude jugar cyberpunk y el procesador al 100% no sobrepasa los 70° una tepmperatura bastante comoda para mi gusto, el cooler es pequeño, sencillo y altamente silencioso ni pareciera que esta girando en ralenti, ya si le exiges el 100 si hace algo de ruido es normal pero nada molesto, sin duda lo volveria comprar el unico pero es que solo es compatible con soket 1155 y no trae manera de adaptarlo a otro soket, eso seria la unica pega que tendria pero por el precio nos e le podia pedir mas.

Wish these things could be removed and installed from the top of the motherboard but hey ho.

It’s a great little heatsink. Good amount of thermal paste pre-installed so I didn’t have to use any extra which is a bonus.

Very low profile, hardly takes up any space. It’s awesome.

The fan cable is a very high quality braided cable which is the perfect length.

The rig this is in hardly ever reaches even 5% CPU usage however this heatsink seems to ensure it keeps cool no matter what it’s doing.

Honestly, for the price, I’m pretty impressed and I’m not sure there’s anything I would change if I could.
