The Thermaltake Tough power Series is a premium line of PSUs certified to the 80 PLUS Gold standard. Incorporating components of the highest quality, it delivers stable performance and unbeatable efficiency. TPD 1200W Gold, which uses a semi-modular design. An ultra-quiet fan delivers silent cooling and a single strong 12V rail flexibly routes the maximum available power to the CPU, enabling peak performance of the computer system. The Tough power 1200W adopts a 135mm cooling fan with intelligent RPM control. This guarantees superior cooling performance and silent operation. The Tough power 1200W saves energy through its high energy efficiency up to 90% and is certified to 80 PLUS Gold. I've bought several for computer builds through the years.
Id have to say, this is one of the nicest units Thermaltake has made thus far.
750 Watts, 80 Plus gold (Runs at 91% efficiency at 50% load) uses high quality Japanese Capacitors, semi modular, uses flat cables (comes with a carrying bag for them) as well as mounting screws, zip ties, and instruction manuals.
Runs stone quiet and has a 140 MM fan.
I bought this one for just a pinch over $100.00.
I shopped around a bit, (not shy to do comparisons) and found this one does a perfect job of powering a system like it should as well as super efficient for saving money on your power bill.
There is also an excellent 5 year warranty.
Thermaltake has a history of making good products, and they offer good service in the event of trouble.
I believe anyone looking to buy should seriously consider this one as a replacement.
They come in 550W, 650W and of course, this model.
Very pleased and would recommend to anyone.
Update: June 2, 2015.
Still running this Powersupply everyday.
Weekends are the hardest used (15-30 hours on average), 2-3 hours per day weekdays.
Not a single issue.
It appears that Thermaltake has added several higher (over 750) watt units since my review last year.
Update: May 22, 2016
Another year has passed with no issues whatsoever.
Use has dropped off somewhat from before, (not quite as many hours) but still very substantial use.
Bought another 750W unit a couple months ago for another computer station.
Update: May 20, 2017
Yet another year, and not a single hiccup!
Running similar hours as to last year.
I dont think reliability is even in question. :)
Another nice thing about this unit is that it supplied with a series of very high quality cables that plug/unplug into the unit based on what you are using in your own build. These include SATA connectors, molex connectors, and are color coded. Thermaltake also supplies a heavy duty Velcro c\sealed pouch that can be used to hold cables you are currently not using (nice touch, I must add, and very helpful indeed).
You may not need 750 watts, and if not, you can look into the lower wattage Thermaltake PSU's. At 750W, you have enough power to run extra video cards (probably two), additional audio cards, multiple hard drives, and so on. It's a good model for someone who has a case that will be used for future extensions and builds. I highly recommend it. Five stars.
I replaced these power supplied because of a circuit issue in my home, I think my old supply was throwing some bad voltage and poping my circuit. These new units have not caused the same problem as of yet.
They work just as expected, these replaced 7-9 year old PSU. Myold unit was a 650W toughpower (before 80plus rating) and was still kicking after 7 years, I popped it open and it doesn't have any puffy caps or any visible wear and tear over the years. Would/have ordered again!
Cons: Could use wire sleeves, any sleeve, individual or group sleeving, at this, price would have made this the best deal on the market.
After 8 years of great service it was a no brainer. I'm sold on thermaltake power supply's now!!!!!!!
- Japanese Capacitors throughout
- Greatly Modular
- Very Stable
- Cools PSU a bit even after system is turned off to keep the components coo
The PSU itself rocks. I'm rocking an i7 with a GTX 580 and I have no issues. My system runs at an average temperature, so no complaints there.
Cons: I really wouldn't list this as a con per se, but it comes with 2 12v CPU cables that you can't detach. I only needed one of them, so I used one of the velcro ties (AWESOME company for including them in the package) and tucked it to the side. No big deal.
