What's not to like? It seems accurate, "reads" pretty fast, and I love the magnet which adhere sis to our microwave or frig. I appreciate having the safe cooking temps for meats printed on the handle. Easy to use although at first thought it was too long. However, when using it for food on the grill or in the oven, my hand is further away from the heat source than with our prior instant-thermometer, which is a plus! That it folds for storage is also a plus for those with limited space.

I use this for baking bread which needs to be 200F to be done. Tapping like a tom-tom is fine I guess but some of my rustic bread has a lot of fruit in it. It will sound like a tom tom but the fruit may cause the insde to not be done. Thus the thermometer. Also I can keep the bread in the pan to measure which is better.

Husband uses it for the grill. Since he grills most nice days, it is also important for him.

I bought this about 3 years ago and need to replace now because some water must have accidentally dripped down into the LCD screen when washing the metal tip. The display is all messed up now and won't display the numbers correctly. I can sort of make out what it says, but very difficult to. It had gotten wet before and turned off fully. I thought I had to replace it then, but at least it was easy enough to take apart and dry it out from the inside.
I would give it 5 stars, but taking off the one just because of the ease any moisture finds its way inside. If you are not careful and have it near the sink when washing dishes it will likely get wet inside.
ThermoPro looks to have a waterproof thermometer that I might try instead.

Affordable because like everything thermometers have a life span. I've learned to keep all jack knife style thermometers open while in service using the on button to activate them. They last a bit longer.
