I knocked off one start for the lid design though. I really wish the the little finger holds on the lid were a little more pronounce to get a better grip. They might have made it this way to discourage over torquing things, but as a lifelong sufferer of tendinitis this could be a bit more friendly. It's really not that bad though, but I can't call it perfect either.
This carafe does not hold the entire contents of a Cuisinart 12 cup pot of coffee. I'm sure it says somewhere in the coffee make instructions what their cup equals, usually 5 oz, I think. Not a big deal unless you are buying this to hold a whole 12 "cup" pot. Measure the coffee maker if that's your concern. My husband and I poured ourselves a mug then put the remaining in the thermos. It kept the coffee hot and fresh tasting all morning. No more skunk coffee after an hour or two of continuous heating from the hot plate. Happy with my purchase.
Back to the Thermos: Depeding on how full the thermos is it will keep the coffee really hot for 6 to 8 hours. After that, it sometimes needs to me microwaved for 30 to 40 seconds to be hot enough. This, of course deteriorates the flavor. So, the key is to not make more coffee than you'll consume in more than 6 or 7 hours.
The thermos is great. It never leaks when pouring. Appears to be very strong and well built. I've been using mine for literally three years almost every day and it works just as well as the first day I used it.

After thirteen hours and eighteen minutes the temp of the water was 160.8 degrees. That is plenty hot for my coffee.
After nineteen hrs. & 12 mins. the temp of the water was 148.6 degrees. Still pretty hot.
I have been using a NISSAN 61 Ounce Stainless Steel Bottle to keep my coffee hot throughout the day and have been very pleased with it. This 51 oz. carafe will be better as it in not nearly as tall as the bottle so it will less likely be knocked off the counter.
This pitcher keeps the water hot for a long time. The next day, water is still warm. It's easy to use and easy to clean. A very welcome addition to the kitchen! I bought one for my mother as a gift as well.
A couple notes: there wasn't much packing material, so in both orders the pitcher a little scuffed. I don't mind, but some might. Be wary when filling with boiling water and capping immediately. Due to the nature of physics and such, steam will build up pressure in the sealed pitcher, making it difficult to open the valve. If you force the valve open, expect steam and hot water to spurt out. This is not a design flaw. If you have qualms with that, either wait before sealing the pitcher, or redefine the laws of physics.
3 months have passed and this Thermos has seen daily use. It was great to have a source of hot, boiled water as the Winter was coming to an end. Now that temperatures are soaring, we still boil our water, but then after chilling it in the fridge we store it in this Thermos for ice cold water wherever we are in the house. It's great to be able to pour a chilly glass of water without having to constantly go to the fridge. The Thermos is part of our daily routine now and we are staying hydrated thanks to it!
