I liked the book, but wasn't wowed by it. The story line itself is one I think could be very good, if handled properly. There is definitely potential here. The writing style is catchy enough and fast paced with good twists to keep it interesting. I have two main issues with this book. The first being Leo herself. This book is about forgiveness and redemption and I don't get the feeling she's done or felt enough to truly earn it. The second problem I have is with the editing. It needs another good editing pass. There are a lot of typos, grammatical errors and occasionally even words missing, like the author got ahead of herself.
I would love to see this book reworked and released. It really does have potential, but as is it stands at three stars.
As for the story itself, I liked the lead and her supporting cast. I kinda guessed one of the most important twists (no, I won’t hint at it) but thought that the plot was fun and world building solid. Ditto re the concept of the curse slowly turning our heroine into a demon, starting with those wicked wings, and what happens when there are enough demons (yuck).
All in all an enjoyable read and I’m hooked into looking forward to book 2.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This was my first read by J.B. Marlowe. Although it wasn't a horrible read, I just couldn't get over the main character, Leo. I think this is one of the most selfish, self absorbed main characters I have ever read. I did not like her nor did I care much for any of the other characters in this book. I'm not sure if this was the final edited version of the book but it was badly edited as well and made it harder to read through.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for voluntary review consideration
