The first book to speak out against the pervasive influence of the American-Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) on American politics, policy, and institutions resonates today as never before. With careful documentation and specific case histories, former congressman Paul Findley demonstrates how the Israel lobby helps to shape important aspects of U.S. foreign policy and influences congressional, senatorial, and even presidential elections. Described are the undue influence AIPAC exerts in the Senate and the House and the pressure AIPAC brings to bear on university professors and journalists who seem too sympathetic to Arab and Islamic states and too critical of Israel and its policies. Along with many longtime outspoken critics, new voices speaking out include former President Jimmy Carter, U.S. Representative Cynthia McKinney, Senator Robert Byrd, prominent Arab-American Dr. Ziad Asali, Rabbi Michael Lerner, and journalist Charles Reese. In addition, the lack of open debate among politicians with regard to the U.S. policy in the Middle East is lamented, and AIPAC is blamed in part for this censorship. Connections are drawn between America’s unconditional support of Israel and the raging anti-American passions around the world—and ultimately the tragic events of 9/11. This replaces 1556520735.

Best thing about this book is that Findley was in the congress so he (and his colleagues) experienced lobby pressure first hand. Secondly he just presented the situations and concluded how Israel Lobby (more specifically AIPAC) has been putting pressure on US Foreign Policy and molding it in their favor which works for Israel citizens put makes US citizens more volatile to terrorism (point presented very nicely by Micheal Scheuer as well). As evident in recent issue over Human Right violation by both Israel and Hamas in Gaza where US keeps vetoeing the report from Goldstone. And now out of 30 countries have voted in favor of the report while US and 5 other European countries have vetoed.

This book covers the people who actually stood up against Israel lobby and criticize Israel's policy against Palestine, had to face so much problems/heat from AIPAC/pro israel lobbies.

Few new things that i learned from this book is that US and Israel allow each other's military to get educated/trained in each other's countries. US trainees are not allowed to enter certain areas in Israel yet Israeli trainees have all the freedom to enter even the high profile areas. On one occassion when US Defense Minister couldn't find the ammunition Israel requested, Israel in turn told the defense minister the exact location of those ammunition which were in Hawaii and the total number in stock. Other issue is that Israel spies in congress have been caught spying on US's high profile documents and handing them over to Israel Embassy.

Another thing is how Jews/Pro Israelis, who also criticize Israel, they are labeled traitors and loose votes and face the heat. Also learn in this book, how our Tax dollars are spent on Israel as AID. Now this was something quite interesting because just last year when the whole world was crying recession, Israel got $3 billion in AID from US (some other financial support also from lobbies/military assistance). Why this much of Tax Payers money was used in AID while in our own country we had so many people on the streets due to foreclosures, unemployment etc.? Shouldn't the leaders be helping the people of our own country first before helping others?

My thought about anti semitism is that if someone criticizes someone doesn't mean they are anti semite or anti US. We all are realizing now that something is not and we share openly our thoughts. I think Anti Semite/Anti Israel is over used and people need to realize that Paul Findley (or many other authors) are not Anti semite or anti israel. They are pro US and cannot stand someone abusing their country. It is about time that US treat Israel as another country rather than special where US keeps hiding Israel's 'mistakes'. Public is not stupid. Real men and women accept their mistakes and try to correct themselves. Rather not keep denying the responsibility of their actions.

If you want to find out more, I highly recommend this book. Definitely worth a read. Also below are some of the books every American and Canadian Citizen should read. And see how we are being kept in the dark and how our hard earned tax dollars are sent to Israel. Amazing read, great investment. Go for it.

I read this book when it came out originally and am rereading it now. Sadly, the arguments made in the mid '80s are even more relevant today. So many Americans and so many American institutions place the needs of Israel ahead of our own. It's time to fight back.

Imagine you're a congressman or a senator. Israeli spies are everywhere. They hear everything you say to your fellow senators in the halls of the Capitol Hill. You refrain conveying an important memo over the phone since the lines are tapped by Israel. If you say anything slightly against Israel, the AIPAC the Israeli lobby threatens your political career by smearing you with being anti-semitic and pouring money to your rival in the upcoming election. You saw all these happened to other congressmen previously. So you approve butchering the budget which was intended to strengthen cockpit doors in commercial airliners just to release more aid money to Israel. You cut down aid money for poor 3rd world countries so that Israel should get more.

Imagine you're a top burocreaut working at Pentagon. The fighter jets will be equipped with a just-released a high-tech air-to-air missiles. It's a top secret. Somehow Israel knows about them, and they want to have them. You say "No, there's a law that prohibits the release a tech secret. Besides we have only one squadron equipped with those missiles". Somehow they force you and they get the only squadron you have.

Israel requests a particular tank, you look for everywhere but you can't find it. When you tell them the USA doesn't have that kind of tank, they tell you that you do have those tanks and tell you exactly where they are stored. They know what, where, everything.

Imagine your father is one of those 280 something marines who were killed in Beirut in 1980's in a single attack by a shiite muslim group. When you read the book you learn that MOSSAD (the CIA of Israel) knew that the attack was going to happen but deliberately doesn't warn USA. What else comes to your mind?

All these are in the book. One top government officer says If Americans knew what Israel is doing to USA, they would take up arms against Israel. The book was written by Paul Findley a former USA congressman with tons of corraborating evidence. Don't think even a second. Buy it at every cost. You will thank me.

This author, a former elected member of the American congress, demonstrates the danger of silence through censorship; censorship being applied by whatever means, overt or covert. His case is the intimidation of the debate mechanisms (papers, radio, television, movies, books, university studies, congressional committees)by agents of a foreign government, namely Israel. Power has always existed in the free flow of information. Without access to opposing views no reasonable person can make a decision. Important issues must be weighed. This author clearly shows how this lack of information has left not only the American people ignorant of a critical issue, the Middle East crisis, but also the elected members of the american government being forced into obedience on issues they know within their soul to be immoral out of fear of being ostracized. The Zionist use of the charge, anti Semite, has long ago served its usefulness and should be ignored as a sign of weakness. The truth be known, the Palestinians are also descendants of Abraham through Ishmael, therefore they also occupy a place as a Semitic people. The question should be asked by the halls of congress and by the American people, " who are the true anti Semites?" We must find the courage to move this issue forward toward a resolution. Reading this book shows the power of this leviathan, but it also reveals the key to its defeat; understanding, engaging and then confronting the agents of influence, the lobbies of foreign governments.
