Editorial Reviews

After a six year hiatus, the original Jedi Mind Tricks frontman, Vinnie Paz, and producer, Stoupe, have reunited to record the group's eight studio album, ''The Thief and The Fallen.'' Forged in the indie rap Golden Era of the mid-90s, Jedi Mind Tricks' consistency has been unparalleled. For two decades, the name Jedi Mind Tricks has become synonymous with raw, gritty underground hip hop. From their debut album, ''The Psycho-social,'' in 1996 to their seminal sophomore release, ''Violent By Design,'' to their musical expansion on ''Servants and Heaven, Kings In Hell,'' JMT has made an indelible impression on the independent music scene, while arguably forming its own subgenre of rap.

Some tracks are good and a couple are great. It's definitely incomparable to their other albums. But I do enjoy it. Vinnie Paz still spitz that knowledge. This album is a lot more morbid and talks about the death penalty, religious scarafice type lyrics. I can't wrap my head around the central thesis of this album quite yet. Wish I could just literally ask them in person after the upcoming album release show that I'm going to this weekend in San Francisco. Crossing my fingers! Still underground as F*#K and true to the Jedi roots. Plus, the artwork on this vinyl is ridiculous! Whomever sketched this shot was tripping out on acid. The color combo of white and teal for the vinyls is sexy. If I had one word to describe it all. WICKED!

Great Album. With the return of Stoupe, it has the original JMT sound. Epic, raw and gritty. People are complaining about Vonnies style, however in only about 2 songs he changes to a faster pace, which in my opinion sounds good. The tracks are all good, there isn't a song on this album I'd skip.

My Biggest complaint is the length of this album. It is very short, there's about 3 or 4 interlude tracks with random beats or choruses and no rapping. And the Songs that Vinnie does Rhyme on are only like 2 verses. Doesn't feel like a full production album, however you're only paying 10$

The best work since Servants in Heaven, back to the true OG Jedi Mind Tricks. I have listened to this a lot since buying it definitely worth the price and it brings in elements from all there past albums in a good mix. Vinny also seems to rap about his personal stuff a lot more on this one, I hope he keeps doing that its more interesting when the track has substance. The Dilated Peoples colab was much appreciated, the hook on And God Said to Cain was pretty terrible but any track with Rugged Man I cant skip. All in all it fits in quality wise with the stuff from Servants and older albums.

Jedi Mind Tricks are back at it again, with Stoupe back behind the boards and no Jus Allah this album feels like a Vinnie solo project. The song 'Fraudulent Cloth' seems as though he's getting feelings off his chest about their partnership that's been so prevalent in the success of JMT. Features like A-F-R-O,R.A The Rugged Man and Dialated Peoples really contribute to the theme of the album,Paz has no problem getting his aggressive style a spin its his introspection and knowledge that seems to be more captivating great project, check it out.

Another great album for JMT. Vinnie Paz never disappoints and now Stoupe is back on the production here. My only gripe about this album (aside from the missing Jus Allah) is that it seems they "tried" to make this album bass-heavy. And honestly it sounds like s*** with my subs. When I play this album I turn the bass practically all the way down. It's really abrasive sounding IMO.

I must confess that I have a bias that leans heavy over these two. The aggression of the Pazmanian Devil and the supremely unappreciated beats of the enemy of mankind bring back priceless memories of discovering underground hip hop and other sounds besides heavy metal. With that said I think this album is great. It's Stoupe doing what only he can do and Vinnie doing what he does best - torturing beats.

Vinnie really stepped up his bars on this release, I think anyways. He showed a speed and rhythms that I had never heard from him before. Specifically on the track And God Said To Cain featuring AFRO and RA The Rugged Man. The rest of the guest features were all quite good too. It was great to see AFRO as an artist instead of that guy from RA The Rugged Mans Facebook. Hearing Dilated Peoples on a track was a real surprise too. And a Stoupe's beats always sound great with a woman singing on top of them.

If you know JMT than you know generally what to expect, which is not a bad thing by any means. Sample heavy beats, power and violence on display yet depth and heart as well. And as an added plus take a look at that cover!

Support great music by buying yourself a copy.

Dope new jmt I like how Paz is evolving his style, many songs on this cd classify as art to me, love the interludes, couple songs that arent my favorite but paz kills it on every track as always. Love it.

Nobody is fu**in with Vinnie Paz right now. He is CONSTANTLY putting out dope album after album whether its JMT, AOTP, or solo material. The man is on his grind and hasn't put out anything wack. This album is great. I love it! Been playing it over and over since I got it. The return of Stoupe is a beautiful thing, and that is what this album needed. I must say though, its probably not the BEST JMT album, if compared to (Violent by Design and Servants in Heaven, Kings in Hell), but its still a great album nonetheless. If you're a fan of raw, real, dope hip-hop music, you need to buy this. Already can't wait for Paz's next project!!
