From the Back Cover
Fat diabetes can be cured by switching to a low-fat, high-fiber, high-carbohydrate, purely plant-based (vegan) diet. The same diet that cures fat diabetes can help to prevent thin diabetes and help prevent the complications of the disease. It can also help everyone in the family stay slim and healthy.
Laurie Thomas has written a very practical, readable book. Her science and logic are impeccable. Diabetics and those wishing to avoid diabetes or to help others with diabetes will find all the information necessary to deal with this disease by using proper nutrition.
Laurie Thomas is one of the few authors who gets it: The human diet is based on starchy vegetables and grains.
--John McDougall, MD, Founder, The McDougall Program
Laurie Thomas clearly explains how diabetes is a dietary disease. By following her recommendations, most people with type 2 will recover from their diabetes and those with type 1 will avoid the debilitating side effects of the disease. This book is a must-read, for we all know someone who is affected by diabetes.

In this fascinating and readable book, Thomas explains that type 1 diabetes (thin diabetes) results from damage to the pancreas, and that this damage can be triggered by drinking cow's milk. She explains that type 2 diabetes (fat diabetes) is not really a disease. It's actually a defense mechanism. If you have type 2 diabetes, it means that your body is trying to lose weight on its own. Your blood sugar is high because your body is trying to burn fat instead of sugar. The solution to this problem is to eat an extremely low-fat, high-carbohydrate, purely plant-based diet. This kind of diet reverses type 2 diabetes and helps protect the health of people with type 1 diabetes. It also prevents heart attacks and reduces the risk of many cancers and autoimmune diseases, even in people without diabetes. This kind of diet is powerful medicine. If you are taking any serious illness or are taking any prescription drug, talk to your doctor before making any change in diet. Otherwise, as Thomas explains in this book, you could end up in trouble because of low blood sugar or low blood pressure!
It being unable to be prevented has been common knowledge among the Type 1 diabetic community and specialty medical professionals for a long while now. So with that huge of a mistake, this author has proven herself to be highly uncredible with anything related to Type 1 Diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes is a fatal disease that kills within days to months without insulin. Type 1 Diabetics' management of their disease is an hourly job. They get no breaks from it... or they die, literally. And that management is made even more difficult by people's misconceptions of Type 1 thinking it is similar to Type 2 diabetes. In the U.S. specifically, people are trying to take away Type 1 Diabetics' ability to be able to afford their life saving insulin & supplies because they think Type 1 diabetics "earned" their disease by not eating & taking care of themselves properly. Many Type 1 diabetics have already died from it because of the country's misconceptions.
This type of stuff being sold by self-proclaimed professionals who are not experts & have no real experience with it are hurting the Type 1 Diabetic cause even more. This aids in the continued poor quality of life & death of Type 1 diabetics.
