“Where we are,” Calisto drawled, “will never matter. It’s always going to be stupid and dangerous, Emmy. It’ll always be bad and wrong. The only thing that I care about is making sure you get out pleased and alive each and every time.”
Calisto knew from the beginning how dangerous his connection to Emma would be. This is what drew me into craving more of him. He doesn't care. He wants her and is going to have her. He is an unforgiving man. He is unapologetic. He also appears to be an uncaring, however we see how he is with Emma. This man is hot...smoking hot. Bethany-Kris, we need more Calisto!
The suspense in this book is off the charts. It is the perfect second book for this series. The plot continues to grow with lines drawn and lies brought to the surface in the world that surrounds them. It leads us straight to the cliff....to anxiously wait for book three to find out what happens.
This is another highly recommended book by Bethany-Kris.
Calisto and Emily are both trapped by their heritage, unable to live the life they want, both being born into the life of the mafia. Opportunities present themselves that seem to taunt them of what can’t be. At no time did any of the scenarios come across as far-fetched. The suspense was pulsating, at any moment their world could implode and take them out. Yet, to me, it felt as if the answer to their problems was so simple. My thoughts were obviously not an option or otherwise clearly Calisto could have arranged it. All throughout this book and more than in Thin Lies, the fated lovers are skating on thin ice. I hung on to the hope the ice wouldn’t crack and that they could somehow make it out alive together. Which is more than they both expected.
Put aside the story, in the Donati family, you wonder why anyone would pledge their life to a man such as Affonso. Family life hung by a thread, with respect for tradition all that tied them together, that and wanting to continue to stay alive. The underhanded behaviour of some of the characters now is my focus and I wonder how and if their dealings will be revealed before more carnage is carried out.
There is so much at stake but the next book in this series is due out this year. Even if I had known the nature of the cliffy, I would have still jumped at the chance to read this book. The book buzz I got while reading Thin Lines was totally worth it! Biggest drama is to pick my next book wisely so I can continue to ride this wave!
