One thing I appreciate about the content of the book is how intelligently written these concepts are. I may struggle with my weight and overeating but I also hold multiple masters' degrees and have read other books that talk down to the reader as though weight struggles are a result of lack of intelligence. Still, the content is not out of reach of those without advanced education. The concepts are simple and presented in a very straight forward manner to the reader.
Just last night, I put the "Stop it! Drop it!" technique to use and I was surprised to find that it worked. I truly did not expect that I would "listen" to myself. I am excited moving forward with the ideas learned from this book and to see what kind of progress and change lies before me!
After a few days I was learning to determine whether my urge to eat was true hunger or just wanting to avoid negative feelings. I feel now that I may have found the key to getting a handle on my life long struggle with emotional eating and weight gain. My history has been that I would often end a meal not feeling satisfied until I had eaten something sweet. Usually, it was a large amount of something sweet.
As suggested in the book, for the past 2 weeks I have been tracking my food and keeping a journal of how I'm doing, both the good and the bad. Today I weighed in and have lost a little over 9 pounds since I started this journey two weeks ago. Even as a member of various weight loss groups, I never had success like this in such a short time without feeling deprived.
I will write another review after a month but the success I've had so far deepens my commitment to keep using the self-coaching tools from the book.
